Sometimes all you want to do is head into battle, and when that's the case, you need the best Warrior Commander cards.
Article at a Glance

There are a lot of Warriors in Magic: The Gathering, but not all of them are worth paying attention to. That’s why it’s good to know the best Warrior Commander cards because you always need to make sure you’re playing at your best.

There’s a real mix of colors and attributes in this list, and it really goes to show off just how varied Warriors are. You’d think they’d all be about hitting things, but you’d be wrong. Well, sort of.

The 10 best Warrior Commander cards

Chatterfang, Squirrel General is our honorable mention for today. Now, we love and respect Squirrels without condition, but as far as Warriors go, Chatterfang doesn’t do much for them. They’re a three mana Green 3/3 with forestwalk that makes extra Squirrel tokens, and can then sacrifice those tokens to buff the power of a creature and reduce the toughness of them too. It’s fun, but it’s not what we’re here for in the best Warrior Commander cards.

10 – Blood-Chin Fanatic

We’re trying very hard not to laugh at the Blood-Chin Fanatic, because we’re pretty sure they’d eat us. For three mana, this is a Black 3/3 with a real taste for flesh. You can pay two mana and sacrifice another Warrior to have a player lose X life and you can then gain X life where X is the sacrificed creature’s power. It’s useful in a bind, and can really help finish off any pesky players who have a board state.

9 – Den Protector

Next up is Den Protector. This is a two mana Green 2/1 with a megamorph cost of two mana. Also, they can’t be blocked by creatures with less power than it, which is a nice bonus. Mostly though, the power lies in the ability to return a card from your graveyard to your hand when they get turned face up. This allows you to recur whatever you want, and it can be absolutely crushing for your enemies.

8 – Garna, the Bloodflame

Garna, the Bloodflame is a five mana Black and Red 3/3 with flash that gives all of your other creatures haste. Also, “When Garna, the Bloodflame enters the battlefield, return to your hand all creature cards in your graveyard that were put there from anywhere this turn.” This is an excellent way to avoid board wipes, or to synergize with Blood-Chin Fanatic in a pinch.

7 – Alesha, Who Smiles at Death

Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is a stone-cold badass. While they’re unstoppable if you build a deck around them, they aren’t as good on their own, so they’re lower on this list as a result. For three mana, Alesha is a Red 3/2 with first strike. Whenever they attack, you can pay two Black or White mana if you do, “return target creature card with power 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped and attacking.” It’s an amazing ability, and if you see Alesha at the head of a deck, expect to die quickly.

6 – Jazal Goldmane

Here come the cats. Well, just the one, but that’s okay. Jazal Goldmane is a four mana White 4/4 with first strike. They also have an activated ability that costs five mana, and grants all of your attacking creatures +X/+X until the end of the turn, where X is the number of attacking creatures you control. Basically, the more you attack, the bigger everything is.

5 – Moraug, Fury of Akoum

Moraug, Fury of Akoum is a six mana Red 6/6 that grants each creature you control +1/+0 for every time it’s attacked this turn. Also, whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, “if it’s your main phase, there’s an additional combat phase after this phase. At the beginning of that combat, untap all creatures you control.” Extra attacks can only ever be a good thing, especially when combined with some of the other choices on this list.

4 – Grand Warlord Radha

A lot of these creatures are pretty mana-intensive, so it helps to be able to generate a lot of mana with ease. Grand Warlord Radha is a four mana Red and Green 3/4 with haste that grants you one Red or Green mana whenever one or more creatures you control attacks equal to the number of creatures attacking. It’s a good way to be able to pay for things like Jazal Goldmane’s ability, as long as you have some spare White mana sitting around.

3 – Surrak Dragonclaw

Surrak Dragonclaw is a five mana Green, Blue, and Red 6/6 with flash that can’t be countered. Honestly, that’s already a pretty good rate for what you’re getting there, but there’s more. They also make it so that our other creature spells can’t be countered, which is great against blue decks, and they give all of your other creatures trample, which is just incredibly powerful. It’s a lot of writing on just one card, and all of it is good.

2 – Champion of Lambholt

There’s a lot of legendary creatures on this list, but Champion of Lambholt isn’t one of them. For three mana, this is a green 1/1 that stops creatures blocking anything you control as long as they have less power than the Champion. Also, they get a +1/+1 counter on them whenever another creature enters the battlefield under your control. In essence, this makes everything you own unblockable in only a couple of turns, and if you want to be attacking, that’s really all you need to know.

1 – Najeela, the Blade-Blossom

Our final pick for the best Warrior Commander cards is Najeela, the Blade-Blossom. Najeela is a three mana 3/2 that has a lot of text. “Whenever a Warrior attacks, you may have its controller create a 1/1 white Warrior creature token that’s tapped and attacking.” That’s good as it is, but it gets better. You can pay one of each color to, “untap all attacking creatures. They gain trample, lifelink, and haste until end of turn. After this phase, there is an additional combat phase. Activate only during combat.” Basically, if you’re wanting to play Warrior tribal, then Najeela really ought to be your Commander.
