Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work we go?
Article at a Glance

The best Dwarves in Commander can pretty much all be put in one deck and then used to absolutely steamroll your opponents.

The Dwarf tribe is one that’s seen a massive boost in recent years, with a huge influx thanks to Kaladesh only being bolstered in the last couple of sets. They’re a great aggro tribe to play, but they also have their fair share of tricks too.

The 10 best Dwarves in Commander

As ever we’re kicking off with an honorable mention, and for the best Dwarves in Commander that goes to Master Trinketeer. This is a three mana White 3/2 that grants all Servos and Thopters you control +1/+1.

You can also pay four mana to create a 1/1 Servo token. This is actually a pretty potent ability, and a nice mana sink if you happen to have a lot spare, but it doesn’t work as well with the rest of the tribe as the others on the list.

10 – Stoic Farmer

First up is Stoic Farmer, a four mana White 3/3 that you can foretell for two mana. They offer a rare ability in White, but one that can really help any Dwarf deck out.

They read, “When Stoic Farmer enters the battlefield, search your library for a basic Plains card and reveal it. If an opponent controls more lands than you, put it onto the battlefield tapped. Otherwise, put it into your hand. Then shuffle.” Being able to put a Land into play is huge, and in a multiplayer Commander game, you can almost guarantee you’ll get the best outcome with this card.

9 – Duergar Hedge-Maze

This Dwarf is a bit more old-school, but they’re also incredibly powerful. Duergar Hedge-Mage costs three mana and is a Red and White 2/2.

When they enter the battlefield, if you control two or more Mountains you can destroy an Artifact, and if you control two or more Plains you can destroy an Enchantment. It’s a useful ability, and having targeted removal on a Creature is great.

8 – Digsite Engineer

Next is Digsite Engineer, who is a three mana White 3/3 that excels if you’re playing an Artifact heavy playstyle, which you should be, because Vehicles and Dwarves just make sense.

They read, “Whenever you cast an artifact spell, you may pay two mana. If you do, create a 0/0 colorless Construct artifact creature token with “This creature gets +1/+1 for each artifact you control.” This can be an incredibly powerful ability, and it can take over a game with ease.

7 – Hofri Ghostforge

Hofri Ghostforge isn’t your usual kind of Dwarf. They’re not bothered about machinery at all, and are far better when you’re dealing with the ethereal. For five mana, you get a Red and Whtie 4/5 that gives all of your Spirits +1/+1, haste, and trample.

They also read, “Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, exile it. If you do, create a token that’s a copy of that creature, except it’s a Spirit in addition to its other types and it has “When this creature leaves the battlefield, return the exiled card to its owner’s graveyard.”” It’s a big old chunk of text, but it means you get double duty out of all of your Creatures, and that’s really quite absurd.

6 – Sram, Senior Edificer

We’re now onto Sram, Senior Edificer, who’s a fantastic Voltron commander, but not the best of the Dwarves in general. Sram is a two mana White 2/2.

Whenever you cast an Aura, Equipment, or Vehicle spell, you get to draw a card. Card draw is obviously very powerful, and you’ll get a lot of card advantage out of Sram even if you’re not going all-in on the Voltron theme.

5 – Torbran, Thane of Red Fell

Adding damage onto your damage is a great way to turn a seemingly harmless group of Dwarves into a lethal threat in an instant. Torbran, Thane of Red Fell is a four mana Red 2/4.

They also make it so that any time a Red source you control would deal damage to an opponent or a permanent they control,. it deals that much damage plus two instead. It’s simple but really powerful, and it makes Torbran a must-kill Creature most of the time.

4 – Mine Layer

Another older Dwarf now with Mine Layer. This is a four mana Red 1/1, which is clearly not good in a fight, but they’re not trying to be.

You can pay two mana and tap them to add a mine counter onto a Land, them whenever that Land becomes tapped, that Land gets destroyed. You’re not going to make any friends playing this card in a match, but you’re also probably going to win, so who cares?

3 – Magda, Brazen Outlaw

Magda, Brazen Outlaw would be the best Dwarf in the entirety of MTG if they weren’t mono-red, but they are, so here we are. Magda is a two mana Red 2/1 that gives other Dwarves you control +1/+0.

They also make it so that you create a Treasure token whenever a Dwarf you control is tapped, and you can sacrifice five of those tokens to put a Dragon or an Artifact from your deck straight onto the battlefield. It’s really easy to get this off multiple times, and you can fill your deck with Artifacts to make sure you’ve got an answer for every situation too.

2 – Dwarven Recruiter

Our final old-school pick is Dwarven Recruiter, which is a three mana Red 2/2. The thing is though, while they’re not a threat on their own, they’re not meant to be.

You see, they read, “When Dwarven Recruiter enters the battlefield, search your library for any number of Dwarf cards, reveal them, then shuffle and put those cards on top in any order.” The ability to stack the top of your deck with the cards you want in the order you want is absurd, and if you’re not playing this in your Dwarf Commander deck then you’re making a mistake.

1 – Depala, Pilot Exemplar

Our pick for the top of the best Dwarves in Commander list is Depala, Pilot Exemplar. Depala does everything you need from a Dwarf. They’re a three mana Red and White 3/3 that grants each other Dwarf you control +1/+1, and boosts your Vehicles +1/+1 when they’re Creatures.

Plus, whenever they become tapped you can pay X to reveal that many cards from the top of your library and then put all Dwarf and Vehicle cards from among those into your hand. If you’re in the market for card advantage, and you should be, the Depala has you covered.
