From the moment it was announced, the MTG x Marvel crossover has been one of the most anticipated releases in Magic’s history. Thanks to the MCU, Marvel is more popular than ever right now, and Magic is no slouch either. While its release date is still a ways away, the MTG x Marvel set seems like a practically guaranteed success.
Currently, details about the MTG x Marvel set are very few and far between. We don’t even know the official title of this long-awaited set, for instance. Despite this, details about the set are already popping up online thanks to leaks. With this in mind, there’s never been a better time to learn all there is to know!
So, without any further ado, here’s everything there is to know about the MTG x Marvel set and crossover!
MTG x Marvel Release Date
At the moment, no exact release date for the MTG x Marvel set has been announced. Instead, we have only been given a rough release window of 2025. Sadly, this release date is rather difficult to nail down as 2025 contains two major Universes Beyond sets.
Thanks to this substantial increase in crossover products, it’s unclear how the typical release schedule will be affected. Past precedent from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth would suggest a June release date, but that’s not guaranteed. Ultimately, we’re just going to have to wait and see what gets revealed.
Thankfully, we shouldn’t have to wait too long to find out exactly that. Since there’s a major Marvel-centric announcement coming up in October, players will find out more soon. While nothing is set in stone, players will likely learn the release date at this event.
MTG x Marvel Leaks and Spoilers
The name of the MTG x Marvel set may still be under wraps, but some of the set’s cards may have already been leaked. Ahead of New York Comic Con in October, it appears Marvel crossover cards have been circulating online. While the source, and authenticity, of these leaks is unconfirmed, it’s possible a vendor at the event facilitated this leak.
Four MTG x Marvel cards have been revealed early, each one of which looks incredibly exciting. There’s a red, white, and blue Captain America and an artifact tutoring Iron Man. This first leak has already gotten players tremendously excited; however, these cards may not be from the main set.
Notably, each of the recently leaked cards has the Secret Lair set symbol, rather than one we’re familiar with. This seemingly indicates these cards are part of a Secret Lair drop, which may be purchasable at New York Comic Con. Following this, there would presumably be a wider release, since these cards are mechanically unique.
Right now, details about the leaked cards are also rather scarce, however, it may appear they’re genuine. Following the reveal, MTG’s Head Designer, Mark Rosewater, was asked why Captain America was Jeskai and gave a surprisingly revealing answer. Stating “He’s core white, but he does have red and blue qualities,” it seems the leaked card’s color identity is correct at least.
Ultimately, the release of the MTG x Marvel set is still a long way off. As a result, there’s no telling if these leaks are accurate. Thankfully, there is a major first-look announcement coming soon which should reveal a lot of juicy details.
MTG x Marvel Reveal
While we may not know much about the MTG x Marvel set and crossover at the moment, that will all change soon. Marvel has announced that during the 2024 New York Comic Con, information about the set will be revealed. This has been dubbed a “very first look,” so it should reveal all manner of juicy details about the set.
At the very least, players should learn the full name and release date for the upcoming Marvel set. We should hopefully also find out what the deal is with those leaked cards we mentioned earlier. There’s a good chance that more spoilers will be revealed alongside these cards to further drum up hype.
During their announcement, Marvel revealed the first look presentation will take place on Friday, October 18th. The exact time the reveals will happen has not yet been confirmed. Alongside the official presentation from Wizards there will also be reveals at Marvel’s booth at the events. This should mean New York Comic Con will be an event for MTG and Marvel fans alike to remember.
That’s All For Now
Sadly, those are all the concrete details we have about the MTG x Marvel set and crossover so far. There may not be much to go off, but more details should be arriving fairly soon, at least. Until then, there’s still no end to the speculation that can take place thanks to the sheer depth of Marvel’s lore.
As a final note, Wizards of the Coast has multiple MTG x Marvel sets and crossovers in the works. During the crossover’s initial announcement, Wizards stated there would be “tentpole sets”, plural, so we can expect more than one. Wizards also touts how there will be a “collection of Universes Beyond crossover products.” This implies there will be Secret Lair drops and potentially Commander decks too.
At the moment, there’s no word on when any additional MTG x Marvel crossover products will be released. Details about these may remain shrouded in mystery for quite some time. Once more information is revealed, we’ll be sure to cover it here, so keep watching this space to stay informed!
