It may be quite a ways away, but we know a surprisingly decent amount about the 2026 MTG release calendar. Between Gen Con in 2023 and MagicCon: Las Vegas in 2024, Wizards hasn’t been shy about teasing what’s to come. A lot of details may still be shrouded in mystery, but there’s nonetheless a lot to unpack.
Outside of a few half-revealed sets, we’re still working with a lot of vague details about the 2026 MTG release calendar. Premier sets may be locked in, but Universes Beyond sets, or anything else for that matter, have yet to be announced. Despite this missing information, it’s hard not to get excited when looking at what’s on the docket.
So, without any further ado, let’s dive deep into everything we know about the 2026 MTG release calendar.
MTG 2026 Release Calendar
Since 2025, Wizards of the Coast has dramatically shifted the MTG release calendar for each year, including 2026. Rather than four Standard-legal premier sets being released, this number has dropped down to just three. To fill out the rest of the calendar, Wizards is also releasing multiple Standard-legal Universes Beyond sets every year.
So far, only the three premier sets for 2026 have been officially confirmed. There’s currently no information about how many Universes Beyond crossovers 2026 will contain, or what the crossovers will be. Sadly, it’s unlikely that we’ll know much more about what Wizards has planned until fairly late in 2025.
Unsurprisingly, given how far away 2026 is, there’s also no word on exactly when each of the announced sets will be released. Regardless, here’s what are the vague release dates on the 2026 MTG release calendar that we can expect.
- Wrestling (Lorwyn Set) | Q1 2026
- Yachting (Arcavios Set) | Q2 2026
- Ziplining (Capstone Set) | Q3 2026
For now, the 2026 MTG release calendar is obviously far from complete, and there are no exact release dates. Once more information is released, we’ll be sure to update this article with all the important information. So, if you want to keep up to date on all things 2026, just watch this space.
Wrestling – Return to Lorwyn
Release Date: Q1 2026
Legal in: All Formats
Formerly planned to release at the end of 2025, Wrestling is now the first premier set being released in 2026. This is rather annoying since Wrestling is Magic’s long-awaited return to Lorwyn after 19 years. Still, even if it will take longer than expected, the fact Magic is returning to this plane at all is hugely exciting.
To go into just how much players want this set quickly, Lorwyn is THE set for many players. Despite this, however, the set was once a complete commercial failure. Debuting in 2007 in the set of the same name, the entire Lorwyn block flopped hard. So much so, in fact, that Wizards almost wrote it off entirely. In 2023, however, this plane has seen an immense resurgence in popularity and demand.
Lauded as one of the most flavorful and fun sets from Magic’s past, MTG players haven’t been shy about demanding a return. At long last, these players are now getting what they want after what will be nineteen long years.
As for the set itself, the return to Lorwyn should be similar to Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Hopefully, the set will reprise the Celtic-inspired elements that made Lorwyn great, while also giving them a new 2026 twist. Considering how good Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty was, this should mean players are in for a truly spectacular time.
Currently, outside of the plane, no concrete details about Wrestling/Return to Lorwyn have been announced. Sadly, MTG players may be waiting for quite a while for more information, since 2025 has to come first.
Yachting – Back to School on Arcavios
Release Date: Q2 2026
Legal in: All Formats
Thanks to the change to MTG’s release schedule, Yachting is now the second Standard-legal premier set being released in 2026. Likely planned for a release in early Q2, this codenamed set will take MTG players back to Arcavios after five years. This plane, in case you’re unfamiliar, was the setting for Strixhaven: School of Mages.
Sadly, very few details about Yachting have been released publicly. Since Yachting is the second-to-last set in the three-year Metronome story arc, however, there’s bound to be a lot going on. Hopefully, the set will explore all the curious mysteries that were alluded to in the original Strixhaven set.
While very little information has been announced about Yachting and the return to Arcavios, it’s nonetheless very exciting. Once more details are revealed, we’ll update this article with more information.
Ziplining – The Capstone Set
Release Date: Q3 2026
Legal in: All Formats
Planned to be released in Q3 of 2026, likely in early August, Ziplining is the capstone set for the three-year Metronome story arc. This means the set will be a massive blockbuster, comparable to March of the Machine. With the fate of the multiverse hanging in the balance, this set is bound to have huge and far-reaching consequences. Sadly, that’s just about all we know about it.
Unlike the other sets revealed during Gen Con in 2023, there’s no word on where Ziplining is set. There has also been no word on which characters will appear, or who the set’s villains will be. That being said, it looks like Jace, Loot, and Vraska will each play a part in this dramatic finale.
Sadly, due to the climactic nature of this set, details are likely going to be kept under wraps for a while. There’s a good chance we won’t know what we’re really in for until after Yachting has been released.
Universes Beyond Sets
On top of all the premier sets releasing in 2026, Wizards is also expected to release multiple tentpole Universes Beyond sets. Should 2026 follow the trend set by 2025, there may be three major Universes Beyond sets, each one of which is Standard legal. Whether or not this will be the case, however, remains to be seen.
Currently, there’s no word about which franchises Wizards of the Coast will be crossing over with during 2026. That said, there is the expectation another Universes Beyond Marvel set will be released. When this collaboration was announced, Wizards touted it as a multi-year deal, so another major set is likely, if not guaranteed.
Outside of the potential of another Marvel MTG set, the world is Wizards oyster when it comes to Universes Beyond. So many franchises would make for perfect Universes Beyond sets, so Wizards could really do anything. Provided that they can strike the right licensing deal, that is. For better or worse, this means it’s rather hard to predict what crossovers we’ll be getting.
Once more information is revealed, or even teased, by Wizards, we’ll be sure to update this article with more information. Controversial as they may have been, there’s no denying that Universes Beyond sets are seriously exciting, and a ton of fun.
Supplemental Sets?
Sadly, it’s entirely unclear if 2026 will feature any Supplemental sets at all. Given the reworked release calendar we’ve seen in 2025, there’s not much room left anymore. The only open slot that Wizards could experiment with is the early January release window. This slot, however, has typically been reserved for a Remastered set.
Theoretically, Wizards could change up the established order to release something more unique in this January slot, but that remains to be seen. If we’re to expect any release in January of 2026, it’s likely going to be another Remastered set. This would be far from a bad thing, however, as past remastered sets have been a joy to play and collect.
That’s All For Now
Sadly, that’s all we know about the 2026 MTG release calendar for now. Given that 2026 is still a ways away, this lack isn’t too surprising, but it’s nonetheless disappointing. Hopefully, more information will be revealed sooner rather than later, so we’re not left waiting in the dark for too long.
