MTG Marvel Leak Reveals Four Legendary Superheroes

Article at a Glance

The MTG X Marvel crossover is expected to be the biggest in the game’s history, but no one expected details to hit the scene this quickly. Slated for a 2025 release, players only recently learned of an upcoming first-look event, penned for mid-October this year. In an even more shocking twist, it now appears that a four-card leak for the crossover has appeared online.

As exciting as it is to see some MTG Marvel cards early, this isn’t an official reveal from Marvel or Wizards of the Coast. As a result, there is a possibility that these cards are fake. While they certainly appear to be the genuine article, nothing is guaranteed. If you would rather wait for the official reveal of these cards, consider this your spoiler warning.

MTG X Marvel Leak

These four new MTG X Marvel cards have been making their rounds online, and there are no obvious signs that they are fake. According to the information on the cards, these appear to be mechanically unique Secret Lair cards. We do not know if these cards appear in the main MTG Marvel set at this time.

As for the cards themselves, there is some incredibly powerful and flavorful stuff to see. Going from left to right, Black Panther, Wakandan King offers players a unique ability that Magic hasn’t really seen before. Granting lands +1/+1 counters without animating them is unusual, and the ability to move counters from lands onto creatures makes this something truly unique. Black Panther is quite capable for two mana and synergizes extremely well with a series of different cards that animate lands. If this card shows up in a main set, it could have some Modern potential.

Iron Man, Titan of Innovation offers an incredibly unique search effect for artifacts that could easily make for a very powerful Commander. Tutoring effects have always been busted in the format, and Iron Man’s ability to create a Treasure token ensures that you can always search for an artifact with a mana value of one at the absolute least. This means that Iron Man, at worst, can consistently tutor your Sol Ring directly into play on attack. Since it has Haste, as long as he gets an attack in, Iron Man can immediately pay for its Commander tax should it die, and threatens to tutor up an infinite combo somewhat quickly should it stick around. This looks incredibly powerful.

Wolverine, Best There Is Regenerates, which is not only powerful but incredibly flavorful. Wolverine wants to get into scraps otherwise, dealing damage to creatures in order to grow stronger. Regeneration should stop the hero from perishing himself, and dealing double damage means this card scales incredibly quickly. This seems like a fun Gruul Voltron Commander but is much less interesting than the previous two cards. You need to be able to Regenerate Wolverine at all times, which is a tough ask for two mana. Otherwise, this card needs some time to get rolling, as dealing four damage for three mana is nothing interesting.

Finally, Captain America, First Avenger is the most flavorful card of what we’ve seen in this leak. Able to equip and throw artifacts at will, Captain America can turn any of your equipment into his iconic shield. Costing red, white, and blue mana is another nice touch.

The first thing that many will likely think of when using Captain America is Colossus Hammer. His Catch ability allows you to ignore the equip cost of the card, and Throw can turn to Hammer into damage to remove multiple different threats. Of course, having a 13/13 Commander can kill someone in just two turns, so with some setup, Captain America looks like the real deal.

These Look Legit

As many MTG players have commented already, there are a lot of details with this leak that suggest these cards are the real deal. As Infinite_Bananas states; “the art seems original and not-ai, and the wording/formatting is all correct.” There is still the chance that these could be well-crafted fakes, but we’re certainly impressed if they are real.

All of these cards, at worst, are incredibly flavorful interpretations of their respective character. Captain America and Iron Man look impressively powerful, and Black Panther gives players an opportunity to do something that MTG hasn’t really seen before. Wolverine is certainly behind the rest but still offers a very flavorful interpretation of the hero that should impress fans. This certainly has many excited for the upcoming MTG X Marvel crossover, as the quality of the cards looks very impressive.
