Universes Beyond crossovers are nothing new in MTG at this point. We’ve had sets of all shapes and sizes, as well as countless Secret Lair drops. Wizards of the Coast isn’t going to stop anytime soon, however. In fact, 2025 is going above and beyond with the biggest, and arguably best, crossovers to date.
In 2025, both Marvel and Final Fantasy are getting major full tentpole set crossovers. It has now been revealed we’ll be hearing about the former of these a lot sooner than expected. Next month, MTG players will get a taste of the first Marvel crossover for the first time ever. It’s safe to say that players are already pretty excited.
MTG Marvel First Look
Earlier today, Marvel announced players will soon be getting their “Very first look at Marvel and Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming collaboration.” This is set to take place on Friday, October 18th when New York Comic Con kicks off.
From Marvel’s announcement, it seems we’ll soon be getting a double whammy of reveals. Not only will some of the set be at Marvel’s booth, for fans to admire, but Wizards has a presentation too. The exact time for this presentation has not yet been announced, but it’s also scheduled for October 18th.
Currently, it’s unclear exactly what will be shown off at Marvel’s booth or during the presentation. Potentially, this could be the official First Look for the Marvel crossover, but that hasn’t been explicitly confirmed. Regardless of what it’s officially called, it would be remarkable if we didn’t see a handful of cards from the set.
Increasing Excitement
There are currently very few details about what players can expect from the MTG x Marvel Universes Beyond set. No details about the era, art style, or theme for the set have been announced, and there’s no shortage of media to pull from. Thankfully, we do know that MTG players can expect superheroes and an awful lot of them.
Following Marvel’s announcement, MTG players across social media have quickly begun speculating about what may be revealed. Given how First Looks usually go, there’s a high chance that an iconic and powerful character will be spoiled. On Reddit, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, and some Fantastic Four characters were all popular suggestions to fill that role.
Even though we don’t know much about it yet, it seems likely that the Marvel set will feature countless legendary creatures. The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth may have pushed the boat out with 85 legendary creatures, but Marvel may push this even further. Thanks to the sheer density of named iconic characters, it’d be hard not to have an overwhelming number of legendaries.
“One thing I’m pretty confident is that the set will have so many Legendary creatures that we’ll even get several at common.”
AporiaParadox
Ultimately, while the set having a lot of legendary creatures certainly makes sense, it isn’t out yet. Hell, we haven’t even had the First Look, given that it’s only just been announced. As a result, we’re just going to have to wait and see what gets revealed on October 28th. Hopefully, at the very least, we’ll get a proper release date for the set. Currently, all we know is that it’s coming out in 2025 and that’s not very specific…
