Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, the upcoming crossover Magic: The Gathering set featuring the world and characters of the popular tabletop game, is set to begin its spoiler season soon. Although we’ve already seen a few cards from the next premium set, including a couple of leaked cards, WotC still hasn’t revealed the new mechanics, trailer, and the majority of brand new Standard-legal cards from the upcoming expansion. However, one key art has emerged in a recently-revealed packaging for the set, and it appears to show a familiar D&D character.
On the official Secret Lair website, the packaging for the Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms Set Booster reportedly surfaced, revealing a never-before-seen art of what appears to be a friendly mind flayer holding a magical staff and a pair of glasses gripped by one of his tentacles.

Some D&D fans on social media point out that the character featured is Omellum, a mind flayer who broke free of its Control Brain with its arcane talents. Omellum is a member of the Society of Brilliance, a group dedicated to improving life in the Underdark. Its personal passion project appears to be developing a non-brain food for mind flayers to subsist on.
It’s likely that Omellum will be featured in a card, and other D&D characters like the legendary Drizzt Do’Urden will be featured in other packaging art for the set.
The preview season will begin next week, but DailyMTG will be revealing new cards on Thursday, June 24. Recently, we’ve seen a leaked card with a dungeon-venturing mechanic and two cards have officially been revealed.
