Over on Twitch earlier today, Wizards of the Coast (WotC) delved into what is coming in MTG in 2022. Called the Showcase 2021, the event gave us insight into what supplemental products are coming next year. There’s a huge emphasis on Universes Beyond, a collaboration with MTG and various other brands such as Netflix’s Stranger Things.
With today’s reveal, there will be more Universes Beyond collaborations incoming with a Secret Lair Superdrop coming soon. If you want to catch up with the set releases for next year, we rounded up the information here.
Lord of the Rings: Tales of the Middle-Earth (Universes Beyond)
Arriving in 2023, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth will bring J.R.R Tolkien’s world to life with a full set MTG release. The set will come to tabletop, Magic Online, and MTG Arena with four Commander decks coming. Also, there will be a unique Secret Lair drop to celebrate the set’s release.
It is not a Standard set, however, it will be legal for MTG Arena’s exclusive Historic format and in Modern. While it’s not a dedicated Modern set such as Modern Horizons 2, there could be a few cards that could impact the format in a charming way. Plus, who doesn’t want to name Hobbit with a Cavern of Souls?

Warhammer 40,000 Commander Decks (Universes Beyond)
Mentioned a little while ago by WotC, there will be a Warhammer 40,000 Universes Beyond which will feature four brand-new Commander decks. Going by the images teased in the preview, it’s likely we’ll see Space Marines under the Ultarmaines Chapter as one of the decks available.
No solid release date yet, but expect them to come out sometime in 2022.

Street Fighter Secret Lair (Universes Beyond)
In 2022, Street Fighter celebrates its 35th anniversary and MTG will be joining in on the celebrations with a Secret Lair drop. As such, expect well-loved characters such as Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li to feature in the Secret Lair drop.
Like the Walking Dead Secret Lair series, these cards will be unique to the Secret Lair. However, there will be MTG version cropping up in future releases or included in the The List for Set Boosters.
