This week, new developments in the Modern metagame had big implications on the secondary market. Kamigawa continues to cause Commander cards to rise in price. And Wizards of the Coast reveals some critical reprints in an upcoming set.
Welcome to The MTG Marketplace, a weekly article on MTG Rocks where we cover each week’s biggest price spikes and overall market trends.
Urza, Lord High Artificer
Urza is one of the best payoffs for artifact strategies in all of MTG. He’s a popular Commander. And players love brewing new ideas involving Urza in Modern. This week, all copies of Urza went up in value.
The regular art version of Urza rose from $50.00 to $60.00+. The foil-etched printing rose to $65.00+. And the foil retro-framed Urza is now a mind-boggling $115.00+!
Dolmen GateIsshin, Two Heavens as One is the most popular Commander from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty according to EDHREC. It has already caused many related cards to increase in value. And its influence continues to affect the market this week as Dolmen Gate rose from $11.00 to about $16.00.
Dolmen Gate allows you to attack without jeopardizing the safety of your creatures, reaping the benefits of attack triggers with Isshin.
Remember how I said Isshin was popular. Well, here’s another card that increased in price this week because of Isshin.
Reconnaissance rose from $11.00 to $15.00+ this week. This card fills a similar role to Dolmen Gate in that you can attack with a creature, and before an opposing blocker would kill it, you can remove your creature from battle.
The Modern metagame is constantly evolving. But there have been many recent developments resulting in several shifts in Magic’s secondary market.
Since February, Force of Vigor rose from $21.00 to $30.00. And there are powerful new blue-white strategies emerging causing Seachrome Coast to rise from $11.00 to $19.00.
Reflecting Pool & Ally Bond Lands
Wizards of the Coast gave players a sneak peek of the upcoming set, Commander Legends: Baulder’s Gate. They revealed some exciting new cards but also some fantastic reprints.
Before their Baulder’s Gate reveals, Reflecting Pool was $21.00-$25.00, and the Ally Bond lands, such as Bountiful Promenade and Morphic Pool, ranged between $17.00-$30.00 depending on the card.
With the upcoming reprints, expect these cards to drop in price!
