This set is the sequel to the first Commander Legends and is taking place in the D&D universe. Let’s take a look at the cards that they showed off on stream! There’s also some cool news at the end so make sure to check that out too!

The Stuff

Before we get into cards, let’s take a quick look at the key dates around the set. We also got to see the set symbols as well as the different products that we’re going to see for this set.

For the products, the usual slate of products is here. We’re getting 4 commander decks, and the prerelease kit is actually Draft for this. They did say that the process for drafting this set is the same as drafting the original Commander Legends.

The Cards

In the stream, they announced a good handful of cards. There’s a few reprints here, as well as some new cards! First, let’s look at the awesome reprints they showed us!

That’s right, we’re getting the Battlebond Lands, as well as Reflecting Pool reprinted! Obviously, as a Commander focused product these lands are in high demand, and while they’re not super expensive, it’s always good to have more of these available to players. But these aren’t the only reprints we’re getting!

Two of Magic‘s most iconic spells, Fireball and Lightning Bolt are getting reprints as well! These are also very iconic spells in D&D, so it makes sense that they’d appear here. The cool thing is the showcase frames that they come in, which look incredible!

Now, let’s look at the new cards! First up, we have the first of an Elder Dragon cycle, Ancient Brass Dragon.

Ancient Brass Dragon is a beefy creature, coupled with a reanimation spell. We’re getting the roll mechanic coming back which is always fun.

Next up, we have the Wand of Wonder, which is another item directly from D&D. The dice rolling mechanic comes back here again as well, which is very true to form, as the original item also has you roll dice to cast spells.

We got another creature and it’s pretty spicy.

Elder Brain, another beefy creature, is a strange mix of a Memory Jar and Gonti, Lord of Luxury. It has to attack to trigger it’s ability, which is a bit of a drawback, but if you can get it in combat, then you’re looking at some serious advantage. The only downside here is that your opponent does draw a new hand, but that could be a minor downside depending on the deck.

The last card that we got for you is one that’s a fan favorite duo from AFR, but in a new way!

Minsc and Boo make their triumphant return, but this time as a Planeswalker! Now, Minsc and Boo can be your commander, which is very cool, and their abilities lend themselves to beefing up creatures that have either Trample or Haste.

Now there’s plenty of great creatures with either of those abilities, but there’s a few cards you’ll definitely want in this deck, namely Concordant Crossroads and Rhythm of the Wild. We’ll have an article tomorrow deep diving into these two, so stay tuned for that!

That’s all the cards, but there was some fun news that also was announced during the stream!

News!

The entirety of the stream was definitely commander focused, as was the news that we got as well. First off, there’s going to be a companion product that is releasing on Magic Arena alongside Baldur’s Gate. It’s called Alchemy Horizons: Battle for Baldur’s Gate. This set will be a draftable format, with cards directly from Commander Legends, some of which that are rebalanced for 1v1 play, as well as some digital only cards. This set is releasing on July 16th.

The other really cool thing that they announced is that CommandFest is returning! We don’t have exact dates, but they should be coming soon, as Blake said that they’d be returning with Baldur’s Gate. This is very exciting news or sure, and when we find out more, we’ll be sure to bring that to you! For more details on everything, check out the DailyMTG Article that went up after the stream.
