Strixhaven: School of Mages, the upcoming magical school-themed Magic: The Gathering set, is heading to MTG Arena this month, and fans will soon be able to play new cards that represent the five collleges of Strixhaven University: Silverquill (black/white), Lorehold (white/red), Prismari (red/blue), Quandrix (blue/green), and Witherbloom (green/black). With the new set coming in a few weeks, MTG Arena will feature The College Cup and the return of the Sealed MTG Arena Open, and Wizards of the Coast has announced the details of these events in a recent State of the Game.
The College Cup
The College Cup is a series of events that will challenge players to compete in various formats and represent one of the five colleges of Strixhaven. WotC shared the ways players can score points for the college they choose to represent.
“There will be three ways to score points for your favorite college during these events: adding sleeves on your deck (college sleeves are available from the quiz above), using an avatar from your college (available from the Mastery Web), and bringing the tome from your college (the pet available through the Mastery Pass). The more items you bring, the more points your college will score.
At the end of the competition, all players will receive a reward commemorating the victorious college: make sure to compete, represent your classmates well, and push your college to victory.”
The Return of Sealed MTG Arena Open
In addition to The College Cup, the release of Strixhaven: School of Mages will also feature the return of the Sealed MTG Arena Open on May 8-9. The first-ever Sealed MTG Arena Open last February turned out to be a success as MTG Arena game director Jay Parker confirmed that it was the biggest Arena Open yet. Just like the Kaldheim Sealed Arena Open, there will be Best-of-One and Best-of-Three Sealed events that players can compete for prize money.
Will you be joining these events? I will most likely stream the next Sealed Arena Open, as I did with the Kaldheim Arena Open.
