Wizards of the Coast Announces Massive Star Trek Commander Delays

We're not jumping to warp speed just yet, captain!

In recent months, Wizards of the Coast’s bloated Magic: The Gathering release schedule has become a major point of contention for players. While it’s nearly impossible for players to keep up with all the new product, nowadays even Wizards of the Coast itself is struggling to keep up. Delays have affected every 2026 release so far, but MTG Star Trek appears to be the worst-affected yet, with Commander decks in particular facing delays on multiple fronts.

Unfortunately, American and Canadian MTG Commander players will receive the Star Trek Commander precons a little later than planned. While we don’t have exact figures for this, as “delays are fluid,” according to Wizards, they’ll most likely arrive sometime after the set’s full tabletop release on November 13th. There’s a chance that things work out better, and we’ll get the precons just after Prerelease events begin on November 6th instead, but this seems less likely.

While these delays aren’t massive, if they resolve when Wizards thinks they will, they’re still far from ideal. Commander precons are some of the best products for new players to buy and enjoy at a set’s release, and removing that option for Prerelease will leave many players disappointed.

On top of that, delays can have serious secondary market ramifications. We saw this clearly earlier this year with the delayed Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart cards, which spiked well above reasonable values. While many of these cards have calmed down now, price memory has kept a few at very steep prices indeed, highlighting the negative long-term effects of delays like this.

These delays are undeniably unfortunate for North American players, but other regions are taking hits too. In Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, pretty much every non-Play Booster product is delayed, including Collector Boosters, Commander precons, Scene Boxes, and Beam Me Up Bundles. Asia-Pacific is in a similar boat, with precons set to arrive on time but everything else delayed.

As rough as these delays are, there’s sadly no real solution in sight at present. Wizards is battling problems far outside its usual purview, with global shipping delays and rising fuel costs driven by external factors. While some have suggested Wizards rein in its rapid-fire release schedule to combat these problems, that’s not really realistic given how far in advance everything is planned for Magic. As things stand, we can only bear the delays as best we can and hope the knock-on pricing effects aren’t too detrimental.
