Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Mythics Are Already Selling for $80+

Share

While Marvel Super Heroes has been playable since last Friday, technically, the set isn’t out yet. As much as it might feel like an annoying technicality, this brief prerelease window is undeniably impactful. Right now, supply for the set is surprisingly low, as, officially, only local game stores can sell the new set.

For better or worse, this means that prices for new cards tend to be incredibly inflated across the board. As such, a headline about a new Marvel Super Heroes card being worth over $80 might not feel that surprising. Unlike some main set cards that’ve been hyped to the moon and back, however, these Jumpstart cards might be surprisingly resilient.

MTG Doctor Doom, Unrivaled

MTG Doctor Doom, Unrivaled

Currently, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled is the most expensive Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart card, and it’s not even close. On TCGplayer, a copy of this Doctor Doom will set you back at least $81, and sales at this price point are surprisingly common. While part of this price point will be due to low supply, with only 14 listings available right now, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled is undeniably powerful.

Offering a mono-black empty deck win condition, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled is certainly an intriguing Commander option. Alongside some fast mana and a Tainted Pact, winning on turn two is a very real possibility. Even outside of that, having a consistent card draw engine in the command zone is always a blessing, especially alongside untap effects.

Admittedly, while powerful, Doctor Doom, Unrivaled isn’t the best new Commander from Marvel Super Heroes, but it’s bound to see play. If nothing else, it’ll be a shoo-in as an extra win condition in self-mill decks for years to come. Thanks to this, there’s bound to be strong demand for this card, keeping prices high, even after release.

MTG Loki, Lord of Misrule

MTG Loki, Lord of Misrule

When it comes to combo potential, it’s hard to ignore the sheer shenanigans that Loki, Lord of Misrule can create. By turning all of your other creatures into one major threat, or combo engine, popping off with Loki is trivial. With Timestream Navigator, Tezzeret, Artificer Master, and a little extra setup, for instance, you can easily get infinite turns.

Much like Doctor Doom, beyond their combo potential, Loki, Lord of Misrule is a rather versatile MTG card. In the 99, Loki can essentially give you multiple copies of your Commander each turn for remarkably little cost. Realistically, the potential with this card is nigh endless, so it’s no wonder it’s an expensive card right now.

At the moment, if you’re after a copy of Loki, Lord of Misrule, it’ll set you back $63 on TCGplayer. Naturally, the low supply during this presale season is likely pushing prices up, but the market price has only been climbing recently. Hopefully, the new wave of post-release supply will bring this down, but like Doctor Doom, Loki has all the hallmarks of being resilient.

MTG Ultron the Annihilator

MTG Ultron the Annihilator

While it might not be the best Commander option from the Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart set, Ultron the Annihilator is fantastic in the 99. Offering consistent token generation and damage for any artifact-themed deck, this Ultron is bound to be a staple. Thanks to this potential, Ultron the Annihilator is very expensive right now.

On TCGplayer, copies of Ultron the Annihilator are selling for $56, and like Loki, prices have been climbing recently. Realistically, it feels like this card’s price might dip; however, it is still a Jumpstart card, so nothing is guaranteed.

A Surprisingly Expensive Set

Expensive Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart Cards

While Jumpstart cards certainly aren’t immune from the plight of overhype and presale pricing, they’re far rarer than their main set counterparts. Each mythic only appears in one out of the 51 new Jumpstart Booster themes, after all. Even some rare cards, like the $42 Devil Dinosaur, have the same odds of being found, so it’s no wonder that prices are high.

Beyond just being difficult to get ahold of, many Jumpstart cards are generic enough utility engines to see widespread play. This is especially true for cards like The Vision and Scarlet Witch and Immortus, Master of Eternity, which slot into tons of decks. Theoretically, these cards could easily climb from their current $42 and $40 price points, but that remains to be seen.

If these prices do remain high, then Marvel Super Heroes Jumpstart might be a surprisingly high-value set to open. That being said, there is a non-zero chance that these expensive cards will crash once the set is released. Considering Marvel Super Heroes and its Jumpstart set are officially released tomorrow, we won’t have to wait long for that, at least.
