Wizards Announces Three Major MTG Sets During 2027 Release Calendar Reveal

Share

Wizards of the Coast really went all out at MagicCon: Amsterdam. Not only did we get Reality Fracture spoilers and a new set for 2026, but most of the 2027 MTG release calendar was also announced. With all three in-universe sets being announced at once, it looks like 2027 is going to be a hell of a year for MTG.

MTG 2027 Release Schedule

MTG 2027 Release Calendar

As Wizards confirmed previously, 2027 features six major MTG sets, evenly split between Universes Beyond and the Magic Multiverse. So far, only the names and settings of the in-universe sets have been confirmed, but, thankfully, all of the dates have been revealed. On top of this, Wizards has also confirmed where and when all of the MagicCons are happening throughout 2027.

As a quick rundown, here are all of the MTG set release dates throughout 2027 and the names we know so far.

  • Nauctis The Sunken Realm – February 5th
  • Unannounced Universes Beyond – April 9th
  • Kamigawa Titanbreach – June 4th
  • Unannounced Universes Beyond – August 6th
  • Zhalfir – October 1st
  • Unannounced Universes Beyond – November 19th

During 2027, we’re also getting four MagicCons, which are happening all across the globe. Two of these are even in brand-new cities, which is great to see, and will hopefully start a running trend. Here are all of the dates and locations for the MagicCons happening throughout 2027.

  • MagicCon: Detroit – February 26th – 28th
  • MagicCon: Tokyo – May 14th – 16th
  • MagicCon: Las Vegas – August 27th – 29th
  • MagicCon: Amsterdam – December 3rd – 5th

Notably, while this is supposedly all of the major dates for 2027, Wizards could theoretically have a surprise in store. In 2026, Mystery Booster: Commander Edition was announced as a late addition to the calendar, and in theory, the same could happen in 2027. This, however, is very unlikely, but we’ll keep this article up to date with every bit of information.

For now, considering we’re only partway through 2026, details about each of the upcoming sets are unsurprisingly rather limited. That being said, Wizards did unveil a few enticing details during MagicCon: Amsterdam.

Nauctis The Sunken Realm

MTG Nauctis The Sunken Realm

Release Date: February 5th

To kickstart 2027, Magic: The Gathering is taking a trip under the seas in Nauctis The Sunken Realm. While this might sound like a very blue-centric idea for a plane, early art showcases an impressive amount of depth. Between tons of aquatic life, deep-sea divers, and their vehicles, it shouldn’t feel too one-note.

Currently, we don’t know too much about Nauctis The Sunken Realm; however, it’s likely we’ll see more this year. Since First Looks for sets tend to be a couple of months in advance, at the very least, we could see this set at MagicCon: Atlanta. Running from November 13th to 15th in 2026, this seems like the perfect place to show off the set.

Kamigawa Titanbreach

MTG Kamigawa Titanbreach

Release Date: June 4th

In Kamigawa Titanbreach, it looks like Kamigawa and Ikoria are literally colliding into one another in spectacular fashion. The result is an MTG set that blends giant monsters with mechs, ninjas, and a whole lot of Neon. While we’ve only seen a few bits of art so far, it’s hard to deny that this is one hell of an incredible aesthetic.

Sadly for anyone who’s instantly hyped for this return trip to Kamigawa, it is a way away. There’s a strong chance we don’t hear about this set until MagicCon: Detroit in 2027. Even then, we might be waiting a while longer for the official spoiler kickoff, which will likely be at MagicCon: Tokyo.

Zhalfir

MTG Zhalfir

Release Date: October 1st

The final Magic Multiverse set of 2027, Zhalfir, is a set that’s been years in the making. Ever since the Phyrexian Invasion ended and Zhalfir shifted back into reality, players have been clamoring for a set there. Now, at long last, it’s finally happening, and the early art already makes it look fantastic.

Showcasing a Zhalfir that has evolved and grown during its stint being phased out, this plane should have tons of lore to explore. Sadly, once again, we’ve got a long while to wait to get to exploring. Given its release date, we’re unlikely to hear more about this set until MagicCon: Las Vegas in August of 2027.

More Reveals Coming Soon

MTG 2027 MagicCon Calendar

For now, this is all we know about the 2027 MTG release calendar, but Wizards is likely to reveal more before too long. Given the usual slightly longer hype cycle of Universes Beyond sets, this calendar could easily be entirely populated by the end of the year. Between San Diego Comic Con, Gen Con, and MagicCon: Atlanta, Wizards definitely has plenty of opportunities.

Ultimately, for now, we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens. Thankfully, in the meantime, we won’t be bored, as The Hobbit spoilers are on the horizon, as are Star Trek and Reality Fracture. Hopefully, these sets should make the wait breeze by, as 2027 looks like an absolutely stacked year for MTG.
