While we’ve known 2027’s schedule for in-universe MTG sets for some time now, Universes Beyond for 2027 remained a mystery for much longer. That finally changed at the New York Comic Con on October 9th, 2026, where MTG Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, the first Universes Beyond set for 2027, was finally revealed.
With Marvel writing an entirely new story for this crossover, this is the Universes Beyond set that many MTG players have been waiting for. Trading New York’s hot dog carts for Marvel’s horror side, this Universes Beyond crossover is designed to feel like an MTG set first and foremost. While there’s still quite some time before this set’s official release, here’s everything you need to know about MTG Darkhold Destiny.

MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny Spoilers

Currently, we’ve only seen the first look for MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny, which occurred at New York Comic Con on Friday, October 9th, 2026. Still, we saw some absolutely incredible cards there, including bangers like

MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny Mechanics

Despite only seeing the first look for MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny so far, we’ve already seen a new mechanic, and a hint of a second one, for this set.
Vengeance is the first new mechanic revealed for Darkhold Destiny, offering a spinoff of the Adventure mechanic. So long as the card with a Vengeance spell on it is in your graveyard, you can cast its Vengeance spell from there, exiling it afterward.
As the only Vengeance card spoiled so far,
Hela, Mistress of Darkness
Hela, Mistress of Darkness

seems quite powerful, as casting a tutor from your graveyard is incredible with mill strategies.
We also know about a new Dimension card type, but we have no idea what that is right now, other than that it exists.
MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny Commander Decks

As with every 2027 set, MTG Marvel Darkhold Destiny will have four Commander Precon decks, each containing 30 new, mechanically unique Commander-legal cards. As is common with these decks, two foil Commanders should also be included. Notably, we have not seen any cards from these four precons yet.
Here’s what we know about each precon so far:
Lords of Hel — BOW BEFORE THE GODDESS OF DEATH—Bring the Ten Realms to heel with Hela and throw undead waves at your enemies with reckless glee; pair powerful sacrifice effects with token generation, and you’ll always have a willing victim
Midnight Sons — SEIZE THE NIGHT—Bare your fangs with Blade and rack up life through Vampires and other monstrous powers; spend your excess life on devastating battlefield effects and be the last survivor standing when the sun comes up
Gods of Asgard — WIELD THE POWER OF THOR—Bring the hammer down with Thor leading your Asgardian armies and build up forces of power 4 or more; hold the greatest power at the table to become truly godlike
Strange Academy — DEMONSTRATE YOUR MASTERY OF THE MYSTIC ARTS—Take the table to school with Doctor Strange and demonstrate the power of portal magic; blink your spellcasters in and out of play to repeatedly score top marks on battlefield entry effects
