Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Release Date, Details, Trailer, and More

At MagicCon: Amsterdam, Wizards of the Coast announced every Magic Multiverse set releasing in 2027. Kicking off the year, we’ll have Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the first MTG set that takes place entirely under the sea. As a setting that has long been requested by fans, Nauctis should kick off 2027 with a real bang.

While we still have the rest of 2026 to get through first, we already know a fair few exciting details. It’s still early days, but Nauctis: The Sunken Realm is shaping up very nicely. Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming 2027 MTG set.

Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Release Date

MTG Nauctis The Sunken Realm

The Nauctis: The Sunken Realm MTG set will be released on February 5th, 2027. As usual, we can expect prerelease events, which is when a set becomes legal, to happen one week before this. Due to this, the date that MTG players should really be looking forward to is January 29th, 2027.

Before this, Nauctis: The Sunken Realm will also need a spoiler season, but it’s unclear when that might happen. Technically, there is time in January; however, with Wizards shutting down over the holidays, this may be cutting it close. In theory, Nauctis could be spoiled at the tail end of 2026, but that remains to be seen.

Thankfully, this confusion should be cleared up before too long at the First Look for Nauctis: The Sunken Realm. Since this usually happens a few months ahead of the full release, it’ll likely take place at MagicCon: Atlanta. Running from the 13th to 15th of November, it’s likely we’ll see our first spoilers from the set here.

Nauctis: The Sunken Realm Details

Nauctis The Sunken Realm Homarid Concept Art

As an MTG set that takes place entirely underwater, you may expect Nauctis: The Sunken Realm to be very blue. While this is likely true for its color palette, Wizards has already shown off that the set has impressive depth. Beyond the myriad aquatic creatures that are expected, for instance, there are also deep-sea divers, volcanic areas, and unknown horrors.

To complement the overarching variety that matches Magic’s color pie, there are tons of different creature types, too. Much to the delight of many MTG players, this includes plenty of Homarids, as well as Shark-folk.

Naturally, this unique setting should have its fair share of unique mechanics, one of which has been teased already. For the first time ever, Nauctis: The Sunken Realm won’t include the evergreen Flying mechanic. Instead, this set will introduce a brand-new mechanic that takes its place, which will be revealed at a later date.

If you want to get immersed in the world of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the set’s trailer is a fantastic port of call. Showcasing plenty of art from the set, as well as concept art, this video is a great first taste of the new plane of Nauctis.

That’s All For Now

Sadly, that’s all we know about Nauctis: The Sunken Realm for now, and it may stay that way for quite some time. Since it’s unlikely that we’ll see more from this set until MagicCon: Atlanta, at least, we’ve got a lot of waiting to do. Thankfully, we shouldn’t be bored while waiting, at least, as there’s still plenty going on this year.

Between The Hobbit, Mystery Booster Commander Edition, Reality Fracture, and the Star Trek set, the back half of 2026 is incredibly busy. Hopefully, this should let the months breeze by till we learn more about what Nauctis: The Sunken Realm has in store.
