A recent announcement from Wizards of the Coast highlights some ‘logistical issues’ with their newest product. Those affected may have their entire prerelease weekend canceled due to a delay in The Brothers’ War product. These delays primarily affect one geological region in particular. Here are the specifics on scheduling changes to The Brothers’ War Prerelease weekend.

Asia-Pacific Brothers’ War Prereleases Cancelled?

According to Wizards of the Coast, seven different products are delayed due to logistical issues. The first and most paramount to prerelease success are the Brothers’ War prerelease kits. It makes sense that areas affected by this delay will have to cancel or reschedule their prerelease events, depending on the severity of the delay.

Here are the areas where players should expect a delay of prerelease kits:

  • New Zealand
  • The Philippines
  • Thailand

While Wizards of the Coast has not specified certain countries where players should expect prerelease events to be canceled, they did state the following:

“As a result of these product delays, Prerelease and Jumpstart Prerelease events in some Asia-Pacific locations may be rescheduled or cancelled. For locations impacted, your local game store can provide information and updated dates for their in-store events.”

If you are in any of the affected areas, consider contacting your local game store to see if your prerelease is being cancelled or rescheduled. There are a lot more delays to talk about, but these ones are, for obvious reasons, the most directly related to prerelease events.

The Other Six Brothers’ War Delays

In addition to the delay of The Brothers’ War prerelease packs, six other products will also be seeing varying amounts of delay. All of these primarily affect the Asia-Pacific area but to varying degrees.

Firstly The Brothers’ War Collector Booster packs will be delayed for multiple areas. These are the top-end of the Brothers’ War products primarily aimed at EDH players and MTG collectors. You can take a sneak peek at the contents of those packs here.

Players from the following seven areas should expect to see a delay in Collector Booster packs:

  • Hong Kong
  • Malaysia
  • The Philippines
  • Singapore
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand

Up next are the new Commander products coming out alongside the release of The Brothers’ War. Between the two decks released, Mishra’s Burnished Banner looks particularly interesting. In our opinion, the best Commander card in the set is coming out as a part of this deck. Additionally, the Commander has caused some significant spikes in the secondary market as a result of infinite turns combos.

Players from the following six areas should expect to see a delay in Brothers’ War Commander decks:

  • China
  • Hong Kong
  • The Philippines
  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Thailand

The ‘bundle’ products are an MTG favorite that contains an offering of new booster packs from the namesake set alongside some bonuses. In the case of The Brothers’ War, one should expect eight Brothers’ War Set Boosters; one Transformers card included with the opportunity to find more in booster packs, one foil Retro-Frame alt-art Queen Kayla bin-Kroog promo card, a basic land bundle containing 20 foil and 20 non-foil basic lands, and one of two gigantic Brothers’ War themed D20s.

Unfortunately, this delay seems to impact the most people, as all players residing in the Asia-Pacific area should expect to see a delay with The Brothers’ War Bundles.

Alongside a regular Sealed prerelease that most MTG players are familiar with, LGS can also run a Jumpstart prerelease. This particular prerelease is good for stores opening MTG to newer players trying to get into the game.

Players in these seven areas should expect a delay of Jumpstart boosters and Jumpstart prereleases as a result:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Malaysia
  • New Zealand
  • The Philippines
  • Singapore
  • Thailand

It seems that Thailand is getting hit the hardest with these delays, as Set Boosters and Draft Booster packs are being delayed exclusively at this location. An observant reader may notice all of the delays listed above are also affecting Thailand. There is no indication in Wizards of the Coast’s statement with how severe these delays are going to be. We can only hope for Taiwanese MTG players that the delay will not be too severe.

How Will this Affect Regionals?

With the latest wave of MTG Regional Championships occurring right after the official release of The Brothers’ War, competitors will be scrambling to get their hands on the newest cards to come out of Wizards of the Coast. A change in sales strategy makes this a bit better since stores can sell products much earlier than historically suggested. Hopefully, Regional Championship competitors in the affected areas will not be disadvantaged due to delayed products.
