Although Strixhaven: School of Mages previews have concluded. It’s time to delve into this year’s offering of Commander product, Commander (2021 Edition).
Commander (2021 Edition) is this year’s annual Commander product that will be available alongside the Strixhaven: School of Mages release. As you can probably guess, the five Commander (2021 Edition) decks each focus on the schools within Strixhaven— Lorehold, Prismari, Witherbloom, Quandrix, and Silverquill.

Lorehold Legacies Commander 2021 Previews
Yesterday saw the complete reveal of Lorehold Legacies, the Lorehold-focused Commander pre-constructed deck that focuses on recursion and artifacts. Lorehold offers a different approach than what we usually expect to see in Boros colors. Instead of being the aggressor and backing it up with burn spells. Instead, you are digging up old relics to find value or more information. Within a Magic: The Gathering context, this means cards or permanents can come back into play, or into your hand. This lends to the Lorehold approach of becoming keen historians and archaeologists, digging up the past to further their knowledge.
Let’s get into the previews, as delivered by The Command Zone yesterday.

Leading the charge in Lorehold Legacies is Osgir, the Reconstructor. As you can see, Osgir cares about buffing up artifacts or extending the value of those artifacts in your graveyard.
The ability to make token copies of those artifacts in your graveyard is incredibly powerful, especially with cards such as Anointed Procession. As with the previous pre-constructed Commander decks, there is another option to play an on-color Commander that is featured within the deck. In this case, it is Alibou, Ancient Witness.

Alibou, Ancient Witness is an excellent artifact build-around Commander that rewards aggression. Perhaps a traditional approach in White/Red, but an approach that will end a game of Commander quickly. Going further, Alibou rewards you for playing mana rocks since you get the scry when they are tapped. There’s a lot to like Alibou, and they’ll generate plenty of value in a Commander pod.
As with any new Commander release, there will be a bunch of new cards that are exclusive to this set and release. There are roughly 20 brand new cards in Lorehold Legacies, which is enough to make the deck feel unique and offers some powerful cards independently.

Out of the new cards, Monologue Tax seems to be the best of an already impressive bunch. Although it’s not quite Smothering Tithe, that effect is sure to get out of hand in a Commander pod. Going further, Archeaomancer’s Map is an excellent ramp spell that is sure to be a staple alongside Land Tax in Mono-White Commander decks.
