Wizards Confirms Three New MagicCon Events for 2025

The next few weeks are going to be absolutely loaded with MTG content and news. On Friday this week, we’re getting our first taste of the MTX x Marvel crossover set coming next year. After that, MagicCon: Las Vegas kicks off the week after and promises to be a show to remember. Between Magic Worlds 30 and a boatload of huge panels, it’s set to be one hell of a weekend.

Before all that, however, Wizards of the Coast is getting the hype train rolling with a comparatively much smaller announcement. Ahead of their big show in Vegas, Wizards has confirmed three MagicCon events taking place throughout 2025. While these are a ways away, it’ll nonetheless be worth making the dates on your calendar!

Three New MagicCon Events

Revealed during the latest WeeklyMTG livestream, and in a parallel article, the three new MagicCons are all in the US. Throughout the year, Wizards will be returning to Chicago, Las Vegas, before finally visiting Atlanta for the first time. Notably, no MagicCon events have been announced for Europe just yet.

Despite this omission, Blake Rasmussen confirmed during the livestream that Wizards “Will be returning to Europe soon.” Sadly, no details beyond this hint were confirmed, but Rasmussen did say to watch the MTG Festivals website. Reportedly, 2025 is going to be a “huge year for Magic play,” so hopefully more will be announced.

As for the newly confirmed MagicCon events, only their dates and locations have been confirmed for now. As usual, each event will host a Pro Tour for the 2025 season although the formats for these have not yet been announced. Here’s the little that we do know.

  • MagicCon: Chicago: February 21st – 23rd, 2025
  • MagicCon: Las Vegas: June 20th – 22nd, 2025
  • MagicCon: Atlanta: September 26th – 28th, 2025

On top of these events, it has also been confirmed that the MTG World Championship 31 will take place in “early December 2025.” The exact dates and location of this event are being kept under wraps for now. Sadly, this will be a “Closed event for participants and won’t be open to the public.” This means we won’t be getting a cheeky end-of-year MagicCon to see out 2025.

A Slight Shift

While this announcement from Wizards is fairly straightforward, there are some things to pick apart. For one, the lack of global MagicCon events is a continued disappointment that players aren’t happy about already. Hopefully, this can be rectified by new announcements throughout the year, but that’s far from guaranteed.

On top of this lack of global events, it’s curious that MagicCon: Las Vegas has been moved far earlier in the year. If you ask us, this probably has something to do with celebrating the MTG x Marvel crossover set. While the release date for this set has not been announced yet, chances are it’ll be released around mid-June, just like Modern Horizons 3.

Should our prediction be accurate, then MagicCon: Las Vegas will be the perfect place to celebrate that undoubtedly momentous set. If we’re right, this also means we’ll see Pro Tour Marvel which should be Sealed and Modern-focused. Thankfully, we should know if this prediction is accurate by the end of next week at least.

At the end of the day, this is a rather competitive-oriented announcement that lets pro players devise travel plans. For the rest of the MTG playing masses, however, there’s still a lot to enjoy. Not only are MagicCon events full of panels and exciting gameplay opportunities, but we’ll also get another Festival in a Box.
