MTG players constantly complain about the endless nature of MTG’s spoiler season. It always seems like there’s something new for Wizards of the Coast to reveal to us, which can be overwhelming for players trying to keep track of everything. Fortunately, it’s been rather quiet recently outside of some Secret Lair reveals, but that may change sooner than we think.
Today, during the Weekly MTG show, Blake Rasmussen announced yet another massive MTG spoiler announcement coming soon. Just over a month away, there are some major things being unveiled at MagicCon: Las Vegas.
A Major MagicCon Annoucement
Thanks to the glitz and glamor the city provides, MagicCon: Las Vegas is undoubtedly the flagship convention in the MTG event calendar. Not only will the Magic World Championship 30 take place during the con, but there will be plenty of announcements and play experiences too. Sadly, many of these are still kept under wraps for now, since MagicCon: Las Vegas doesn’t begin until October 25th. That said, we have just been given a peek behind the curtain.
Speaking during the most recent WeeklyMTG, Blake Rasmussen revealed there will be a “big look forward” at MagicCon: Las Vegas. This event is expected to debut the name and themes of the sets taking place throughout 2025. This means we’ll get more information about our return to Lorwyn and Tarkir, alongside information about the Universes Beyond sets.
While no concrete details have been revealed thus far, we can expect this major preview panel to take place on Friday the 25th of October. Sadly, this date is still a long way away, but it’s not like we’ll be waiting aimlessly until then. After all, Duskmourn will be getting spoiled, and released, before then!
PAX West Duskmourn Spoilers Announced
Per today’s WeeklyMTG, it has been confirmed that a massive spoiler announcement is coming at the end of this month. Duskmourn spoiler season is going to be kicked off at PAX West at the end of August. Expect some new, spooky cards to come to light on Saturday, August 31st.
It’s common to see multiple spoilers from a variety of MTG sets at events like these. While other types of spoilers have not been confirmed, we know for certain that Duskmourn will be starting there.
This means that MTG players have, somewhat, had a month of reprieve in terms of new spoilers. Yeah, we technically still have some Secret Lair announcements and the Mystery Booster 2 reprints in that time, but this is the quietest that spoiler season has been for quite some time.
Major Play Announcement Next Week
In addition to the new information that Duskmourn spoilers are kicking off on August 31st, we also have confirmation of a big announcement coming in next week’s Weekly MTG event. Billy Jenson, head of play design will be joining Weekly MTG host Blake Rasmussen for a massive announcement. Sadly, there’s no word on what exactly this announcement will be, but it’s nonetheless exciting stuff considering past Weekly MTG reveals.
Following on from this major play announcement, the week of the 26th is all about bans. Not only will bans happen on the 26th of August, but Wizards will explain their rationale during the Weekly MTG on the 27th. Hopefully, there will be a lot to talk about during this stream, as a lot of formats are in dire need of changes.
Ever-Evolving Arena Decks
For those interested in the new preconstructed Arena decks, one important factor announced at this week’s Weekly MTG is that these decks will be ever-evolving entities. The MTG Arena team will track what decks do well and do not do well, in terms of playability and sales, for feedback.
This means that the contents of the decks may change to better suit the larger game as a whole. Furthermore, new decks may be created based on what is selling well on the MTG Arena store at any given time. This is not the end of the new MTG Arena preconstructed decks.
