Strixhaven: School of Mages, the upcoming magical university-themed Magic: The Gathering set, will feature 5 Elder Dragons, each representing one of the five colleges of Strixhaven school located in the plane of Arcavios. The colleges (Prismari, Quandrix, Lorehold, Witherbloom, and Silverquill) are all named after the Elder Dragons who founded them, and today, we get to see two of them. Earlier today, we shared the preview for the red and blue-aligned college, Galazeth Prismari. Today, we have our first look at the Elder Dragon representing the blue and green-aligned college, Tanazir Quandrix.

First look at Tanazir Quandrix

Quandrix school is all about math, and it looks like we will see a good amount of cards that deal with the addition or multiplication of +1+1 counters. This legendary mythic rare Elder Dragon can double the number of +1+1 counters on target creature you control, so we expect to see more blue and green cards that will add or double +1+1 counters in Strixhaven. To take full advantage of Tanazir’s power, you will need to focus on casting spells that would increase its base power and toughness, so when this dragon attacks, you can boost up the base power and toughness of other creatures you control, so that means if you have multiple creatures with +1+1 counters already on them, they will become much bigger. Having Flying and Trample also helps ensure that Tanazir’s attack will hit your opponent. However, like many big dragons without Hexproof, it’s vulnerable to removal.
