Strixhaven: School of Mages Quandrix Preview Round-Up

Let's dive into some of the quirky Quandrix previews!

Yesterday’s Strixhaven: School of Mages focused on the mathematical school of Quandrix! Quandrix students are intellectual math magicians. They study patterns, fractals, and symmetries underneath reality to command power over the fundamental forces of nature. They’ll solve a Rubik’s Cube while pondering the properties of the universe. And apparently, they can also recite every number of Pi backwards. Impressive, right?

Don’t forget, we have a dedicated spoiler gallery for Strixhaven: School of Mages if you want to keep up to date with the latest previews!

It seems Quandrix cares about adding counters to creatures and adding additional lands into play. These are bound to see constructed and Commander play since they can do so many different things. Strixhaven cares a lot about giving you options ensuring your spells matter at any point during the game. Zimone, Quandrix Prodigy is sure to make an interesting Simic ‘land matters’ Commander as you play so many lands in the format. It’ll be a surefire addition to the Quandrix Commander 2021 deck which is previewed next week.

Tanazir Quandrix makes for an interesting Commander, since you can use powerful enchantments such as Hardened Scales and Doubling Season to capitalize on Tanazir‘s triggered ability. Then, you can grow your board of creatures and turn sideways, and who doesn’t love that?

The biggest highlight from yesterdays previews is Ecological Appreciation, which joins a long line of powerful X Green spells in Magic: The Gathering.

Following Chord of Calling and Finale of Devastation, Ecologocial Appreciation is a sorcery that searches your library and graveyard for creatures and puts them on the battlefield. Unlike other spells before it, your opponent does get to choose which two creatures you get. Since Ecologocial Appreciation starts at three mana with the requirement to pay X on top of that, it’s ideal as the top-end in a creature-focused strategy, especially ones that generate a ton of mana.

Strixhaven: School of Mages is set to release for tabletop on April 23, and it will be released on Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic Online on April 15.
