Earlier today, Netflix Geeked previewed a teaser of the first in the Secret Lair: Universes Beyond series — Stranger Things.
Stranger Things is an American science-fiction horror television series created by the Duffer Brothers which is available on Netflix. Since the show’s release in 2016, Stranger Things has risen to popularity and received widespread reception. If you are familiar with the show, it is no surprise to see this collaboration since the Duffer Brothers are huge Magic: The Gathering and Dungeon & Dragons fans.

Universes Beyond Secret Lair: Stranger Things Coming This Year
Arriving later this year, Secret Lair: Stranger Things will be the first in the Universe Beyond series which features collaborations with Magic and other franchises. The Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000 are already confirmed to see a crossover Secret Lair drop down the line.
Gavin Verhey (Senior Designer at WotC) went into further detail about the Secret Lair drop on Good Morning Magic. Verhey explains how the cards will be in black border, mechanically unique, and will bring the Stranger Things characters to life in a new way.
Expanding on a point made by WoTC earlier this week, the company will be printing in-world Magic: The Gathering versions in addition to the Stranger Things versions of these cards. This will not be similar to The Walking Dead Secret Lair which stirred up controversy in the Magic community.
The premise will be similar to the Gozilla series in Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths, where the cards will function the same despite having different names. As such, you can only run a playset of each card regardless if it’s the Magic version or the Stranger Things version. However, the Magic versions of these cards will be appearing in Set Boosters about six months after the release of Secret Lair: Stranger Things.
With that, expect more announcements and news soon about Universes Beyond soon. And we’ll provide the details as and when they drop.
