Judge promos are some of the nicest cards around, and they’re given to select judges as a way of thanking them for all of their hard work.

We all know at least one MTG judge who is basically responsible for keeping our local MTG scene alive, and it’s good that they get thank yous where possible, because it’s something that’s often done out of the goodness of their hearts, and they definitely deserve a lot more credit for the work they do.

Well, the next batch of Judge promos have been announced, and they’re absolutely beautiful.

The new May-August Judge Conference Promos are…

That’s right, the new promos have been revealed via @JudgeAcademy on Twitter and are Grand Arbiter Augustin IV, and Karlov of the Ghost Council. The sheer girth of their names is enough reason to fear these cards, but the new artwork is absolutely stunning, and they’re both a lot of fun as Commanders too.

Grand Arbiter Augustin IV is a four-mana White Blue 2/3 Creature that makes your White spells cost one less to cast, your Blue spells cost one to cast, and makes your opponents have to pay one more for each of their spells. It’s a pain in the butt to play against, but that’s not your problem if you’re the one playing them.

Karlov of the Ghost Council is a two mana White Black 2/2 that gains two +1/+1 counters whenever you gain life. On top of that, you can also pay one White and Black and remove six +1/+1 counters to exile a Creature. It’s so easy to build around this and either flatten your opponent with Commander damage or just keep them from having Creatures.

These are both excellent Commander cards, and you can expect to see them around sites that sell singles or in your local trading groups pretty soon as a result.
