New Promotion Offers MTG Star Trek Cards For Watching Movies This Week

Share

Depending on your love for the crossover itself, every MTG Universes Beyond set will appeal to some players more than others. That seems especially true for Star Trek, which feels out of place for many, but could be the dream crossover for many more.

For the die-hard MTG Star Trek fans out there, an opportunity to celebrate early is available. The first four Star Trek movies are being re-released at Regal this week, and there are some Welcome Deck promos available for attendees.

MTG Star Trek Welcome Deck Promos

Between September 4-8, buying a movie ticket to rewatch one of the four re-released Star Trek movies at Regal comes with a free extended art Star Trek Welcome Deck promo. From the promotional image itself, it appears that only two of the Welcome Deck mythics are available, both of which aren’t too compelling mechanically.

Between the two, Spock, Logical Choice Spock, Logical Choice Spock, Logical Choice Vigilance (Attacking doesn't cause this creature to tap.)
{T}: Draw a card.
is a bit more enticing, capable of drawing lots of cards with untap engines like Umbral Mantle Umbral Mantle Umbral Mantle Equipped creature has "{3}, {Q}: This creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn." ({Q} is the untap symbol.)
Equip {0}
. That said, there are strictly better cards that already do a similar thing, like Arcanis, the Omnipotent Arcanis, the Omnipotent Arcanis, the Omnipotent {T}: Draw three cards.
{2}{U}{U}: Return Arcanis to its owner's hand.
. For that reason, this card will mostly be for Commander decks that want redundancy for this ability, or for the hardcore Star Trek collectors.

In addition to Spock, Picard, Steadfast Captain is also available, offering a below-rate creature for +1/+1 counter decks. Sadly, while Picard can create a lot of value with select cards like Evolution Witness Evolution Witness Evolution Witness {1}{G}: Adapt 2. (If this creature has no +1/+1 counters on it, put two +1/+1 counters on it.)
Whenever one or more +1/+1 counters are put on this creature, return target permanent card from your graveyard to your hand.
, there are plenty of cards that can do his job better.

Still, if you didn’t have an opportunity to pick up the MTG Star Trek Welcome deck cards early, this could be a great opportunity to do so. We also haven’t seen the extended art treatment for these cards before, which could end up being quite rare. Only time will tell how rare these cards end up being, but if you want to rewatch some Star Trek movies anyway, this could be for you.
