Back at MagicCon: Amsterdam, Wizards of the Coast revealed most of the 2027 release calendar. All of the six major sets’ release dates were announced at once, but only the in-universe sets were properly revealed. For now, there’s still a bunch of placeholder “Unannounced Universes Beyond” sets on the calendar, but that should be changing soon.
Universes Beyond Set Reveal Coming Soon
As spotted by AporiaParadox on Reddit, it appears that Magic: The Gathering will be at New York Comic Con this year. Beyond just having a presence at the event to show off Reality Fracture of Star Trek, Wizards has a big announcement planned. On October 9th, 2026, from 7:45 PM to 8:45 PM EST, the next Universes Beyond set will be announced.
“Something Magical is coming to New York Comic Con… and no, we can’t tell you what it is yet. (Nice try, though.) What can we tell you? You’ll want to be in the room when it happens. Expect Magic: The Gathering, a universe beyond our own and some people who know things they’re currently not allowed to talk about.”

Sadly, while it’s very exciting that a Universes Beyond set will be revealed, there’s no telling what we’ll actually see. On Reddit, there’s the comical suggestion it’ll be a Hamilton set, thanks to the “in the room where it happens. Alternatively, some players suspect it might be yet another Marvel-themed set, which certainly isn’t impossible.
Thankfully, while another Marvel set is technically on the cards, we shouldn’t be returning to New York. According to Hasbro’s CEO Chris Cocks, the 2027 Universes Beyond sets should be more “fantasy adjacent,” which is welcome news. Unfortunately, this still doesn’t tell us exactly what we’ll be seeing next month, but hopefully it should fit MTG’s general vibe.
Ultimately, we’re sadly going to have to wait for more details about this New York Comic Con MTG announcement. Potentially, it could be leaked beforehand, like the TMNT set, but even then we’ll likely be waiting a month. Hopefully, whatever does get announced next month will be well worth the wait, as 2027 is already looking amazing.
