Within the wide world of MTG, typically, there’s an awful lot going on. So much so, in fact, that if you ask a lot of players, it’s a problem. With a new set releasing almost every single month, MTG players are constantly bombarded with spoilers and news. Recently, however, it’s been all quiet on the MTG front.
Following the release of Wilds of Eldraine, the typically endless MTG news well has all dried up. Leaving players without a shred of information, beyond some Arena intrigue, there has been practically nothing happening. On the one hand, this is great for players wanting to sit down and enjoy all the new set has to offer.
On the other hand, however, after literal years of non-stop spoilers, a news drought nowadays just feels… wrong. Thankfully, or rather for better or worse, this is finally coming to an end this week. Well… At the end of this week at least.
MagicCon: Las Vegas Brings the News
To put an end to the quiet times, at the end of this week, there’s the latest MagicCon event for MTG players to look forward to! As always, this event promises an awesome time for attendees with people to meet, packs to purchase, and Magic to play. Alongside this, MagicCon: Las Vagas is also home to the Magic World Championship XXIX.
As the jewel in the crown of the MTG competitive calendar, all eyes will certainly be on the World Championship. Before then, however, MTG players will also be able to enjoy a bevy of panels across the weekend. For curious players, these panels include Game Knights Live, the Magic Story Podcast Live, and making Unknown Event cards with Gavin Verhey!
From their descriptions on the MagicCon website, each of these events certainly sounds like a great time for MTG players. For everyone else, however, there’s one main event worth looking forward to; “The Preview Panel”. As the name suggests, this preview panel is going to be chock full of details about upcoming sets.
Finally, after what feels like forever (but is actually just three weeks) we’re going to have new spoilers to enjoy. Revealing cards, art, and details about The Lost Caverns of Ixalan, Ravnica Remastered, and The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Holiday Edition, there’s certainly a lot on the docket. While this certainly sounds like a great time that’s chock full of reveals, unfortunately, not everything will be new.
Over the past few weeks, MTG players have seen a number of surprise leaks, debuting cards ahead of schedule. This includes almost every expected new card from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth Holiday Edition. While this may put a dampener on the otherwise exciting reveals, there’s still a lot of new to look forward to!
When Is the MagicCon: Las Vegas Preview Panel?
Now that we’ve gotten you all hyped for impending news, you might be asking yourself the above question. Thankfully, we have the answer, and it’s a fairly simple one! The MagicCon: Las Vegas Preview Panel is set to take place on the 22nd of September at 1 PM PDT. For those in other time zones, this will be 4 PM EDT or 9 PM BST.
Unfortunately, like other MagicCon events, it is unlikely this MTG Preview Panel is going to be livestreamed. Thankfully, while this is definitely disappointing, social media will come to the rescue on the day. Previously, Wizards of the Coast has live-tweeted the event so MTG players can keep up to date.
For those not enamored with the idea of staring at Twitter all day on Friday, we’ll also be covering all the important reveals. So, if you want to keep up to date with all things MTG, just watch this space!
If you’re still after even more ways to watch the Preview Panel, worry not, as there is another option. Typically, following each MagicCon panel, Wizards will upload them to their YouTube account. While incredibly useful, unfortunately, this process often takes a little while, so you may have to avoid spoilers on social media for a few hours if you want to go in blind.
There’s Plenty More in Store
As we mentioned before, while The Preview Panel is the star of the show, it’s hardly the only MTG event at MagicCon: Las Vegas. In our previous mention, we already covered a few of these, however, we did leave one particularly enticing panel. Currently shrouded in mystery, it’s hard not to get excited about “The [REDACTED] Panel!”
Given the name, we obviously don’t know too much about this panel just yet. What we do know, however, is that it’s hosted by the Secret Lair team. This means it’ll likely include details about the next Secret Lair Superdrop. Either that, or it may explain how the current, surprisingly lucrative, Secret Lair came to be. Whatever gets revealed, it sounds like a good time to us.
If you’re wondering what on earth this panel could be, just like us, here’s all we’ve been told so far.
“The Secret Lair team have lost their minds and are pulling back the curtain on everything involving [REDACTED]! A veritable avalanche of info about [CAN’T SAY THIS!], [NO WAY], [ADVISE NOT TO REVEAL], and even going so far to talk about [INCREDIBLY REDACTED]. By the time this panel is over, we’re just going to have to call it “Lair!” [DO NOT CALL IT THIS].”
For those intrigued, The [Redacted] Panel will take place on the 22nd of September at 2:30 PM PDT. Similarly to The Preview Panel, this event will likely be live-tweeted to keep players in the know about any big reveals. Following this, a recording of the event should also be available on YouTube. Of course, we’ll also be covering all the juicy details as and when they happen.
