Great Unclean One has a disturbing amount of synergies with Duskmourn. Not only is the card a Demon, which Duskmourn cares about, but it synergizes with a Face Commander in a rather extreme way. For this reason, the card has spiked from 80 cents to $6.41 since the start of September. Needless to say, this is a rather impressive spike.
Great Unclean One
- Mana Value: 4B
- Rarity: Rare
- Stats: 4/5
- MTG Sets: Warhammer
- Card Text: Reverberating Summons – At the beginning of your end step, each opponent loses 2 life. Then for each opponent who has less life than you, create a 1/3 black Demon creature token named Plaguebearer of Nurgle.
Great Unclean One synergies with Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls in a rather alarming way… or that’s what we thought. That Face Commander thrives off opponents losing life, but Valgavoth wants opponents to lose life during their turns, not yours. Great Unclean One causes life loss on your turn, so contrary to our initial thoughts, the cards don’t actually synergize well together.
That said, because Valgavoth wants players to lose life, Great Unclean One should be able to provide a lot of bodies on your turn, provided that you can keep ahead of your opponents’ life total. There’s also a rather heavy Demon theme in Duskmourn, which could be causing Great Unclean One to see a price increase. It will be interesting to see if this price increase continues to rise considering that the reasoning for the increase has been put into question.
