Since its inception, Wizards of the Coast has proven that anything is on the table when it comes to Universes Beyond. Some, like Final Fantasy and The Lord of the Rings, make sense, but the same can’t be said for My Little Pony and The Office. For better or worse, this actually makes divining future crossovers rather difficult, since basically anything is possible.
That said, thanks to a new announcement from Hasbro, one future Universes Beyond crossover feels rather likely. While nothing in MTG is guaranteed, we might just be getting a crossover with The Legend of Zelda before too long.
New Hasbro X Zelda Partnership
A new multi-year licensing agreement between Hasbro and The Legend of Zelda was announced earlier today. Set to begin in 2027, this collaboration will kick off with three six-inch-scale figures, which will be revealed next week at San Diego Comic Con. While nothing else has been announced, the high possibility of a Secret Lair, or even a full set crossover, has MTG players extremely excited.
That said, as Hasbro’s partnership with Harry Potter demonstrates, not every Hasbro collaboration is guaranteed to appear in MTG. Thanks to J.K. Rowling’s extremely harmful views towards the trans community, Wizards quickly shut down the potential for a Harry Potter Universes Beyond crossover. While there’s no comparable issue with Zelda, nothing is set in stone.
On top of this, players have pointed out that this partnership specifically only mentions “toys” and nothing to do with MTG or cards. Considering how notoriously strict Nintendo is with its IPs, this could very well be the extent of what we’re getting.
Regardless of what happens, Magic does feel well-positioned to showcase an IP like The Legend of Zelda, so a crossover would likely do quite well. Should this crossover be real, we could very well hear about it soon, too. With an MTG panel scheduled for San Diego Comic Con, it would be the perfect time to announce an MTG x Zelda crossover. Ultimately, however, we’ll just have to wait and see what, if anything, gets announced here.
