MTG Designer Confirms New Magic Panel This Month

Share

While it’s been pretty slow so far, July is one hell of a month for Magic: The Gathering. Not only do players have Marvel Super Heroes to enjoy, but there’s MagicCon: Amsterdam on the near horizon. As if this wasn’t enough, it now appears that there’s a second MTG panel happening later on this July.

“I am, as usual, running a Magic panel at SDCC.”

In what now appears to be a running trend, Magic: The Gathering will be back at San Diego Comic-Con this year. Technically, we’ve known this would be happening for some time, as Wizards confirmed in June there’d be some presence at the event. Specifically, Wizards would be showing off Marvel Super Heroes, which made it seem like a fairly minor appearance.

Recently, however, Mark Rosewater has confirmed that there’s an MTG panel scheduled for the event. Curiously, this panel isn’t currently visible on the 2026 SDCC schedule, but, presumably, it should appear in due time. Even without a set schedule of what’s being talked about, it’s still worth getting cautiously excited.

Running from June 23rd to 26th, San Diego Comic-Con is following up MagicCon: Amsterdam very quickly. We already know that Wizards is planning to announce three sets at this MagicCon, but that’s only half of the calendar. In theory, San Diego Comic-Con is the perfect place to announce the other Universes Beyond half.

Sadly, while it is technically possible that Wizards could have another major announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, nothing is guaranteed. Like last year, Mark Rosewater might just be running a “Blogatog Live” event that doesn’t reveal much of anything. Alternatively, we might just see some spoilers for The Hobbit, since that set’s spoiler season starts on July 18th.

Ultimately, until either Wizards or San Diego Comic-Con itself announces more, we’re still in the dark. Thankfully, it’s not too long to wait now, at least, so we shouldn’t have to wait long for more details.
