Early MTG Reality Fracture Spoiler Is A Terrifying Commander Angel

An unexpected blast from the past...

With several major panels scheduled over the weekend at MagicCon: Amsterdam, it’s an exciting time indeed to be an MTG player. Turns out the festivities are starting early, too, with a sneaky Reality Fracture Commander deck card revealed today in the convention’s Black Lotus Lounge. While Darksteel Angel is expensive, it feels like a terrifying new MTG Commander threat for a range of different brews.

Darksteel Angel is probably the best ‘you can’t lose the game’ creature we’ve seen yet, beating out the likes of Platinum Angel to Herald of Eternal Dawn thanks to Indestructible. The higher mana cost isn’t hugely relevant, either, since you’ll be cheating this out with Reanimate or Goblin Welder 90% of the time anyway.

Darksteel Angel is also notable for being a win condition in itself, with its second ability serving as a serious combo enabler. You can make infinite mana with this and Devoted Druid, for example, or loop Murderous Redcap with an outlet like Phyrexian Altar for infinite damage. These aren’t new combos, as they’re also doable with cards like Melira, Sylvok Outcast or Solemnity, but more redundancy is welcome.

All in all, Darksteel Angel seems like a fantastic new reanimator target for decks at bracket three and under, and a great new finisher for Artifact brews. If this is the standard of spoiler we can expect in Amsterdam, then this weekend will be a banger for sure.
