Commander Legends, the first-ever Magic: The Gathering set designed to be drafted, turned out to be a success. The innovation product released in November 2020 introduced a refreshing way to combine the gameplay of Commander with the Limited approach of Booster Draft. The set featured 71 legendary creatures and planeswalkers, adding new and powerful Commanders for the Commander Constructed format, and now, fans are wondering if Wizards of the Coast will release another set of its kind in the near future. Thankfully, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater has an answer.
On his Blogatog, Rosewater responded to a fan who asked, “If or when, Commander Legends 2?”
“When. The first one did well, so odds are we’ll make another,” Rosewater said.
This is wonderful news for the Commander community. Although Wizards of the Coast hasn’t officially announced Commander Legends 2 yet, Rosewater’s comment about the high possibility of it coming thanks to the success of the first Commander Legends sounds promising. It will probably take a few years before the second Commander Legends comes out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the R&D team at Wizards are already working on it now.
The Commander Legends Draft and Collector boosters are still available on Amazon and TCGPlayer.
