Last week, Wizards of the Coast released the latest MTG Festival in a Box ahead of MagicCon: Atlanta. While we’ve seen this happen many times before, this Secret Lair contained the first boxes of Mystery Booster: Commander Edition. Thanks to this, demand for this $250 product was at an all-time high, and the sale didn’t exactly go to plan.
Selling out in just 20 minutes, this product absolutely flew off the shelves, leaving many would-be purchasers incredibly disappointed. While this was a shockingly fast sale, admittedly, it wasn’t unexpected. Between the included Secret Lair, the Mystery Booster: Commander Edition box, and promos, this was basically free money.
As if all that wasn’t enough, it appears the bonus cards for this Secret Lair are seriously exciting, too. Depending on your luck, you could pull a fresh $12 reprint, though the actual price of this new bonus card may be much, much higher.
MTG Calix, Guided by Fate Bonus Card

First released in March of the Machine: The Aftermath, Calix, Guided by Fate is a fantastic card for Enchantress decks. Not only can you use it to buff up your board, but when dealing damage, you get to copy your Enchantments. While this ability is limited by a once-per-turn clause, it is still insanely powerful and even enables infinite combos.
While this Calix is incredibly powerful, it’s particularly expensive thanks to its origins. With March of the Machine: The Aftermath flopping so hard that it changed Magic’s planned future, the supply of the set’s cards has always been somewhat low. Thanks to this, default frame copies of Calix, Guided by Fate sell for around $12.60 on average on TCGplayer.
Notably, while Calix hasn’t been reprinted until now, it does have a range of printings and foil variants. Of these, the most exciting is the halo foil showcase variant, which sells for $55 on average. With a financial ceiling this high, the newly discovered bonus card printing could theoretically be a fantastic pull.
A Potentially Pricy Pull
Sadly, while there’s the potential for some insane bonus card value, the actual price of this Calix, Guided by Fate reprint is unknown. Until more Festival in a Box deliveries happen, it’s unclear if this is a common or rare bonus card. Even if it’s common, this reprint should be decently valuable, but if it’s rare, it could easily be $50+.
Ultimately, for the time being, we can only really wait and see what happens going forward. Thankfully, with deliveries already being made to lucky Festival in a Box purchasers, we shouldn’t have to wait too long.
