MTG Duskmourn Spoilers Reveal Instant Speed Blue Enchantress

Article at a Glance

Enchantress effects are some of the most powerful cards for a deck that focuses on enchantments. Every single one of your enchantments becomes cantrips. With enough enchantments, you’ll virtually never run out of cards, which is what makes enchantresses such powerful effects in Magic: The Gathering.

Up until now, most, if not all, enchantress effects have been in green. In Duskmourn, however, it seems we have a blue enchantress to consider. Bant may be the new best color scheme for an enchantress deck, and Body Tracker could be leading the way.

Body Tracker

  • Mana Value: 2U
  • Rarity: Rare
  • Stats: 2/3, Human Scout
  • MTG Sets: Duskmourn
  • Card Text: Flash. Eerie – Whenever an enchantment you control enters and whenever you fully unlock a Room, draw a card.

Body Tracker is a strange combination of tradition and innovation. While this is a typical enchantress, it’s also so much more.

Notably, Eerie cares about two things: enchantments entering play and Rooms being unlocked. Some enchantress cards care about enchantments entering, while others care about enchantments being cast. Of the two options, having enchantments enter is the better option. This allows you to use Flicker or Blink effects to draw cards and can synergize with enchantment tokens entering play. All in all, Body Tracker looks like it is set up for success.

The addition of Flash is ridiculous. Players will likely have a very small window to deal with Body Tracker before you draw a card off it. This simple keyword allows the viability of this card to be off the charts, allowing the card to potentially see constructed play outside of its obvious home in Commander.

Where to Play Body Tracker

Currently, there aren’t many enchantress decks in constructed Magic. These decks need time to accumulate resources and start snowballing. The endgame that these types of decks provide usually involve locking an opponent out, but depending on your opponent’s plan, it can be difficult, or even impossible, to lock them out completely.

That said, enchantress decks occasionally appear as anti-meta options in Pioneer and Modern. Using a Nine Lives and Solemnity lock can prevent players from winning the game through combat damage. Should the metagame line up in a way where this lock seems powerful, enchantress decks can be a great rogue choice.

Enchantress-esque decks have been created in recent standard formats. While there is not currently one that exists, the massive amount of enchantment support from Duskmourn makes it a much more likely possibility. Body Tracker is strong enough to give players a reason to try this. Combined with the powerful reprint Ethereal Armor, there could be some really explosive Standard decks.

The place where Body Tracker is likely to see the most play is Commander. Enchantress decks are a dime a dozen in the format and do precisely what Commander decks want to do: snowball value. Drawing cards is essential in this format, and Body Tracker does much of that. Combine this with other enchantress effects like Enchantress’ Presence and Eidolon of Blossoms, and you’ll have more cards than what you know to do with.

One of the better enchantress Commanders that utilize blue is Estrid, the Masked. This was originally a precon Commander, but Estrid can be built into a powerhouse. Untapping enchanted permanents can make a lot of mana, which can help you play the enchantments that your enchantresses help you draw. You can truly accumulate value at a ridiculous pace.

High Hopes

Enchantress effects always get a ton of attention, and Body Tracker should be no different. Aside from the obvious mess this card will make in Limited, Body Tracker should be a hit with any Commander player looking to play an enchantment-focused deck with blue in it. This could even be an upgrade to the Miracle enchantment Precon releasing alongside Duskmourn.

If you’re interested in Body Tracker, we recommend you grab it if the price is reasonable. There is very little chance that this card ends up being ignored.
