Over time, it’s incredible how popular manga and anime have become worldwide. Many people enjoy reading manga in their free time, and the market has grown significantly in North America over the last few years. There are a wide variety of genres and topics for manga readers to become immersed in, which makes the pastime even more enjoyable.

In fact, there’s even a manga out there with an MTG theme! Known as “Destroy All Humans: They Can’t Be Regenerated,” this intriguing manga series follows two school rivals that develop a bond over our beloved card game. As a unique bonus, each volume of the manga series comes with a sweet, foil MTG promo.

Just recently, volume 16, the newest issue of the manga, was announced on Twitter along with the new promo. This promo may not seem the most exciting at first glance, but it has the potential to be pricier than you might expect. Let’s take a closer look.

Foil Gush Promo

Gush
  • Mana Value: 4U
  • Rarity: Common
  • MTG Sets: Mercadian Masques, Duel Decks: Jace vs. Chandra, Mystery Booster 2
  • Card Text: You may return two Islands you control to their owner’s hand rather than pay Gush’s mana cost. Draw two cards.

Coming September 25, the 16th volume of Destroy All Humans: They Can’t Be Regenerated is set to release, giving players the opportunity to get their hands on a foil Gush promo. Gush is an incredibly powerful card. Getting to draw two cards without investing any mana is fantastic.

The card is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage for its role as a combo enabler. The presence of Gush makes assembling a Storm kill much easier than you might expect. In Pauper, Gush also received a ban, as the combination of Gush+Foil was deemed too strong.

As such, the card doesn’t have many places to be utilized outside of Commander. It’s a very iconic card, but it isn’t worth that much generally, either. Copies of Gush from The List are worth less than $1 according to TCGPlayer market price. However, with regards to the foil promo, there’s a bit more to the story about why it’s so appealing.

Foil Vs. Non-Foil

Much like the Culling the Weak promo associated with volume 14 of the manga, the Gush promo gets a lot of mileage out of being foil. Currently, the only foil version of Gush available is from Mercadian Masques. Foils from this set are not abundant by any stretch. As such, even though Mercadian Masques copies of Gush are worth about $3, the market price for foils is roughly $75!

It’s likely this new foil promo variant will be worth significantly less. Nonetheless, if the Culling the Weak promo is any indication, the foil Gush could still easily hold a $10-$20 price tag. This manga series continues to be a hit, and this volume’s promo makes it even more special.
