In the world of Dungeons & Dragons, one of the most things that players resonate the most with is the monsters! There’s a deep bag of creatures in the game and with Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate in preview season, we expect to see some of them. Where there’s a couple of cuddle creatures that were previewed that may look nice, but they’re scary once they’re in a game!
2 Cuties!
So we have a couple cute lookin’ creature to talk about today. Let’s meet them!
First up, we have the ever famous Owlbear Cub! The Owlbear Cub is a tiny beast that shows up in many a campaign, and when there’s a cub, there’s always a mama! When it attacks, if the opponent that you’re attacking has 8 or more lands, you look at the top 8 cards of your library. Then you can put a creature from among those 8 onto the battlefield, tapped and attacking that same player.
Right away, you could definitely throw the Owlbear Cub into Ayula, Queen Among Bears for Bear tribal. But Owlbear Cub also fits really nicely into just any bog standard green based creature deck. Often times, those decks aim to cheat big threats into play, and this could be another fantastic addition there.

The other little fur baby that we have here is Displacer Kitten! For anyone who isn’t familiar, Displacer Beasts in D&D are creatures that have the ability to bend light, essentially “displacing” an image of themselves up to 3 feet from where they actually are located. This makes them great at hiding!
Now as it pertains to Displacer Kitten, this card allows us to do some really crazy stuff, “displacing” our own permanents, essentially hiding them away from the world. Blink decks are very popular and powerful, as they abuse many strong enter the battlefield abilities. Because of the popularity of these decks, Displacer Kitten has many easy homes.
Just to name a few, some of the top blink decks are Brago, King Eternal, Roon of the Hidden Realm, and Yorion, Sky Nomad. Each of these have been the heads of the Blink archetype for a while. With each of these, we want a mix of really great enters the battlefield / leaves the battlefield effects and blink effects and Displacer Kitten fits the mold.
