Article at a Glance

This week, an old Modern gained new traction in the format resulting in major financial gains. In addition, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty continues to influence the prices of many Commander cards.

Welcome to The MTG Marketplace, a weekly article on MTG Rocks where we cover each week’s biggest price spikes and overall market trends.

Weekly Winner

Ranger-Captain of Eos

The regular art version of Ranger-Captain rose from $14.00 to $25.00 as a direct response to WOTC banning Lurrus of the Dream-Den in Modern. But Ranger-Captain continued to grow this week and is now about $30.00+.

The premium versions of Ranger-Captain are another story. This week, players almost bought out all copies of them from online vendors. Consequently, they skyrocketed in price. But as I predicted in Wednesday’s article, more copies have since hit the market, marginally bringing prices down. The foil-etched version slid down to $40.00. But the foil retro frame version is still holding at $60.00+.

Trending Up

While there weren’t as many price spikes this week, many cards have been steadily rising in price with overall impressive price increases.

Esper Sentinel has been steadily gaining value over time. While at one point, the MH2 card was $13.00, today, it is about $27.00.

Other cards, such as Aurelia, the Warleader, and Starfield of Nyx, increased in price because of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The new set had a massive impact on Commander, causing price fluctuations for the last several weeks.

Since the release of Neon Dynasty, Aurelia went from $18.00 to $30.00, and Starfield of Nyx increased from $11.00 to $16.00. If you’re interested in more Commander cards that recently rose in price, you can read about them here.

Weekly Losers

Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty was released one month ago. Card prices from the set have since had time to adjust and settle in price. Some of the set’s most hyped cards are now available for great prices.

Both of these Planeswalkers received a lot of attention when WOTC first showed them off. But they have since sunk in price. The regular art version of Tamiyo is less than $3.00 and Tezzeret is less than $6.00.
