Today’s previews are all about the grungey and grim school of Witherbloom! They focus on the natural sciences and draw power from the essence of living beings, whether that is enhancing nature or manipulating it. Witherbloom students are at their happiest picking up herbs, hanging out in swamps, or riding around on zombie crocodiles. Yeah, you read that right.

Evaluating Beledros Witherbloom
Headling today’s previews we have Beledros Witherbloom as previewed by Star City Games. Beledros Witherbloom is the final Elder Dragon previewed in Strixhaven: School of Mages.
Beledros Witherbloom looks to be an exciting card. It’s worth noting Beledros Witherbloom‘s trigger occurs on every turn and not just on your upkeep. Even with a high mana value, Beledros Witherbloom is bound to see play in Commander as it offers a lot of synergy with cards such as Meren of Clan Nel Toth. It’s probably a bit too slow for constructed, but you got to admit it’s a powerful card in the right setting.

The second ability is what makes Beledros Witherbloom truly impressive, the ability to untap all lands you control at the expense of 10 life is powerful within a Commander game. Since you are gaining life off the Pest tokens, this is sure to get out of hand quickly. Also, you can activate Beledros Witherbloom‘s second ability once each turn too, that’s a lot of untapping of lands! It’ll be exciting to see where the Elder Dragon fares in constructed and singleton formats upon Strixhaven: School of Mages release!
Strixhaven: School of Mages is set to release for tabletop on April 23, and it will be released on Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic Online on April 15.
