Earlier this month, Wizards of the Coast announced a new Magic: The Gathering Arena event coming this early July, and it’s called Mirror, Mirror. The event lets players run decks that include rebalanced (essentially nerfed) versions of cards currently banned in the Historic format. Now, it looks like the rebalanced cards have been leaked.
Andre Liverod, developer of the third party tracker application MTGA Assistant, recently datamined cards belonging to the set code “ANC” and asked the Reddit community on what they could be used for, and they were able to deduce the purpose of the game files, and how they will be changed for the upcoming event.
Let’s take a look at the rebalanced changes below. Note that these changes may not be the final versions of the cards, but we will update you here on MTGRocks when the patch goes live. Thassa’s Oracle and Time Warp were recently banned in Historic, but they’re not included here.
Rebalanced Changes For Banned Historic Cards
Agent of Treachery
Change: Agent of Treachery’s enters the battlefield ability triggers only if cast from the hand.
Field of the Dead
Change: Field of the Dead’s enters the battlefield ability triggers only if cast from the hand.
Fires of Invention
Change: Mana cost increased by one colorless mana.
Nexus of Fate
Change: Instead of shuffling Nexus of Fate back to the library, you have to exile it after casting.
Oko, Thief of Crowns
Change: Oko’s first ability gives +1 loyalty and the second ability now takes -2 loyalty.
Omnath, Locus of Creation
Change: When Omanth enters the battlefield, you Scry 1 instead of drawing a card.
Once Upon a Time
Change: When it’s the first spell each game, Once Upon a Time costs 1 instead of 0.
Teferi, Time Raveler
Change: Mana cost increased by 1 colorless mana.
Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath
Change: Uro no longer allows you to put a land card from your hand to the battlefield when it comes to play.
Veil of Summer
Change: Mana cost increased by 1 colorless mana.
Wildnerness Reclamation
Change: Instead of untapping all lands, you only untap up to two target lands you control.
Winota, Joiner of Forces
Change: Look at the top four cards of your library instead of six.
These nerfs look reasonable, so it would be interesting to see if these rebalanced versions can be viable in MTG Arena’s fan-favorite eternal constructed format. Since Historic is a digital-only format, it looks like WotC is finding potential ways to patch the format without banning the cards.
