MTG Arena fans caught it early. Back in January, Arena gave a slight hint that a crossover with Nikelodean’s series could be on the way thanks to a sneaky shop sale. Considering that Spongebob is getting its very own Secret Lair drop this year, this suggestion didn’t seem so outlandish. Miraculously, it turns out that Arena players were right on the money. MTG is getting a crossover with Avatar, The Last Airbender.
MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender
Everyone has a Universes Beyond crossover that makes them absolutely giddy. This is mine. Avatar is my favorite animated series, period. The show demonstrates some incredible storylines and characters that go through amazing amounts of development. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
While the imagery isn’t widely available online, players can expect all of the major characters from the series from what we have so far. Aang, Oppa, Sokka, Toph, Momo, Zuko, and Katara have all appeared in set art.
Sadly, while it has been confirmed that MTG and Avatar are getting a crossover, there isn’t much else known about it. Aside from a cryptic date shown off at the end of the video with a QR code, all this YouTube announcement shows is that a crossover is indeed coming our way.
According to the video, we can expect more information on November 21st of this year. Clicking on the QR code, however, takes you to this page, which suggests that November 21st is instead the release date for the set.
This means that Avatar: The Last Airbender is likely the mystery Universes Beyond Crossover that players have been waiting to see announced. This means that Avatar will likely be a Standard legal draftable set, but this has not been 100% confirmed.
That’s it for Now!
It may not be much, but the confirmation of an MTG X Avatar: The Last Airbender is a big announcement in itself. While we won’t have much information about this set for quite some time, this crossover does seem like a strong one. Like Final Fantasy, Avatar’s worldbuilding is seeped in serious fantasy. That setting seems to pair the best with MTG’s existing fanbase.
