Wizards Announces Second MTG Zeta Set Print-To-Demand Sale

A welcome response to one of 2026's biggest failures!

While Magic has had its fair share of controversies in 2026, The Zeta Set was probably the biggest one. The pricing on this new Secret Lair product was divisive enough, but its sale, which was plagued with technical issues and low supply, was an absolute disaster. As a result, one of the more promising, experimental products Wizards has put out in years was essentially wasted.

Fortunately, it seems this ill-favored expansion is getting a second chance. In a new announcement, Wizards has revealed that MTG The Zeta Set will be back on sale soon, and this time it’ll be print-to-demand.

A New Print-To-Demand Wave of MTG The Zeta Set?

MTG The Zeta Set Print-To-Demand

This news came from a new article on the official Wizards website that outlined a few key points. First, it apologized again for the issues players experienced during the initial Zeta Set sale back in September, and offered an explanation for why they occurred. Essentially, an external service disruption early in the sale disrupted the entire thing, leading to several queue problems and issues. While Wizards already apologized for these issues at the time, further acknowledgment of the problems is always welcome.

This time, however, Wizards brought more than words, addressing the Zeta Set failure by announcing that the set will be put up for sale again very soon. On December 9th, 2026, MTG players will be able to order The Zeta Set through the Secret Lair website, with supply being print-to-demand rather than highly limited as before. As with the recent Hatsune Miku and Odds and Ends Commander precons, this sale will last for a full 24 hours, giving everyone plenty of time to get their orders in.

A move like this isn’t just unexpected, but essentially unprecedented, as Wizards has never put a Chaos Vault product like this up for sale a second time. In this case, it’s also incredibly welcome, not just because of the issues with the first sale, but because The Zeta Set is actually a fantastic product. While the art isn’t to everyone’s taste, the quality of the reprints here is undeniable, essentially making The Zeta Set the closest thing to a Masters set we’ve had in years.

Wizards notes that players who order The Zeta Set during this print-to-demand window can expect to receive their orders “in the second half of 2027.” While this is a long time to wait, it’s still far better than the situation previously. If players engage with this sale, and the other print-to-demand precon sales this year, en masse, then it could well lead to a broader change for Secret Lair as a whole. Given how much heartache the initiative’s limited supply has caused over the years, this seems like a fantastic outcome to us.

Notably, Wizards is also offering refunds for anyone who bought The Zeta Set during its initial sale, in case “this change means Secret Lair x MSCHF: The Zeta Set isn’t what you signed up for anymore.” Provided you submit a ticket via this link by October 9th, 2026, you can have all previously-purchased product refunded.

This appears to be Wizards’ way of addressing the collectability elephant in the room: now that The Zeta Set is print-to-demand, it’s likely that its value on the secondary market will decrease a lot. While players are still waiting on their initial orders, so values on the set are unknown at present, this decision will undoubtedly impact them in time.
