Thanks to a Chaos Vault email, the Odds and Ends Commander deck was teased to release Monday, September 28th. Now, not only has that information been officially confirmed, but Wizards has revealed a supplementary product available through the Chaos Vault. If you’re a fan of basic lands with fancy artwork, this could be right up your alley.
MTG The Oddlands
As part of the Odds and Ends Commander deck launch, Wizards is releasing five distinct versions of a product dubbed The Oddlands. As the name suggests, each product consists of entirely basic lands, with each including 10 basic lands of a specific type.
All five options are available for purchase in non-foil at $29.99 apiece, or foil at $39.99 each. While this pricing layout is fairly standard, this time around, there’s a special promotion on top of this. For every three copies of The Oddlands that a player buys, they will get one of their products entirely for free, whichever is cheapest. This is a nice treat for those looking to add lots of flair to their Commander decks.
Overall, like most land-filled Secret Lairs of the past, The Oddlands has drawn its fair share of complaints from players who don’t want to shell out money just for basics. The good news, at least, is that these basics could still hold some value. After all, earlier this year, the My Little Pony: Lands of Equestria Secret Lair was released, and a single basic Plains still sits at $8. If this holds for these lands, these Secret Lairs could be a goldmine, but that is hardly a certainty.
Obviously, it’s impossible to know exactly how pricy these new basics will end up, but players do seem to appreciate the art for the most part. The biggest resounding complaint actually seems to be with the Forest specifically which, thanks to its emphasis on red colors, looks like a Mountain at first glance. Some other players that admire the art still aren’t big fans of these lands as game pieces, which isn’t too surprising given how over-the-top the artwork is.
Still, these vibrantly colored basics do have plenty of appeal, and if you’d like to purchase them, they go on sale Monday, September 28th.
