2026 is a truly packed year for Magic: The Gathering, bringing a total of seven new sets, both in-universe and Universes Beyond, to the table. Capping off this veritable cardboard feast is MTG Star Trek, a crossover set long dreamed of, and now finally realized. With a ton of new cards, treatments, products, and even a full suite of Commander decks in tow, there’s a ton to take in with this one. Thankfully, we’ve gathered all the crucial information you need to wrap your head around Magic’s jump into warp drive.
MTG Star Trek Release Date

MTG Star Trek will be fully released on November 13th. As is always the case for new Magic sets, Prerelease events will be held the week prior, from November 6th-12th.
In an interesting twist, Star Trek will also be playable very early at the ST:LV Trek to Vegas event. Running from August 5th-9th, this event “will mark the first time fans can play with Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek™ Welcome Decks.” Since Welcome Decks are typically composed of main set cards, this will likely serve as an early spoiler batch in itself.
- ST:LV Trek to Vegas: August 5th – August 9th
- Star Trek Prerelease Events: November 6th – November 12th
- Star Trek MTG Arena Release Date: November 10th
- MTG Star Trek Global Release Date: November 13th
MTG Star Trek Spoilers

We got our first batch of Star Trek spoilers during the set’s First Look on July 14th. This was a mixed start overall, with a couple of potential playables largely outweighed by flavorful chaff. Fortunately, things are better on the reprint front so far, with all 10 Shocklands coming back in the main set, as well as a Sheoldred, the Apocalypse reprint on the Stardates bonus sheet.
As to when we’ll be seeing more from the set, that’s unclear at present, as Wizards hasn’t announced a Debut date just yet. Typically preview seasons run for a week or two, ending a week or two before Prerelease, so an estimate of around October 19th as the Debut date seems reasonable. In any case, we’ll likely see at least a few more cards at ST:LV Trek to Vegas in August.
MTG Star Trek Card Variants

In addition to the now-standard borderless scene cards, Star Trek features a plethora of alternative card styles for players to collect and enjoy. the spiciest of these new variants by far is undoubtedly the new Signed Headliner treatment.
These are textless versions of legends from the set, signed by the actors who portray them on the show. So far we’ve seen two of these, but there are seven planned in total. As they’re all limited to “approximately 250 copies” each, available exclusively in Collector Boosters, these are essentially the serialized cards for this set.

Star Trek has several more accessible treatments as well, including the LCARS frame, which emulates the iconic user interface of the Starship Enterprise. The Classic Enterprise style cards, on the other hand, “pay homage to the vintage Star Trek posters that adorned the walls of movie theaters across the world.”
Both of these treatments are available in Play and Collector Boosters, in foil and non-foil. Surge foil versions of each can also be found, but exclusively in Collector Boosters. It’s also worth noting that all 10 Shocklands are available in a special, textless LCARS treatment.
For those willing to journey beyond booster packs, Star Trek offers one final treatment in the form of the Beam Me Up promos. As the name suggests, these are available exclusively as foils in Beam Me Up Bundles, and depict Spacecraft from the set in a unique schematic style.
MTG Star Trek Commander Decks

Unlike The Hobbit, which bafflingly didn’t get any, Star Trek will come packing a full suite of four Commander precons. While we don’t know anything about the contents of these decks yet, we do know their colors and the gameplay themes they represent.
- Federation Fleet
- Colors: WUR
- Themes: Card draw and Spacecraft
- Landing Party
- Colors: WUG
- Themes: Landfall
- Klingon Fury
- Colors: WBR
- Themes: Aggro
- We Are The Borg
- Colors: WUB
- Themes: The Assimilate mechanic and Artifact creatures
MTG Star Trek Mechanics

As with all new Magic sets, Star Trek is bringing some new mechanics to the table for players to get to grips with. We saw three of these during the set’s First Look, specifically Federation, Face a Dilemma, and Assimilate.
- MTG Federation: A new mechanic that cares about the number of creature types among non-Borg creatures you control. The more creature types you have, the more effective your Federation effects will become. Notably, because of the non-Borg clause, you won’t be able to ‘cheat’ this mechanic with Changelings.
- MTG Face a Dilemma: Rather than being a wholly new mechanic, Face a Dilemma is simply a new definition for an existing action. Whenever you choose one or more modes for a modal spell or ability from now on, that counts as ‘facing a dilemma.’
- MTG Assimilate: The signature mechanic of the Borg faction, Assimilate lets you reanimate creatures from your opponents’ graveyards, giving them +1/+1 counters in the bargain. Creatures Assimilated this way also become both Borgs and artifacts, opening up additional synergies.
As we’ve only seen a very narrow slice of Star Trek so far, it’s very possible that there are more new mechanics in there just waiting to be revealed.
