MTG Iron Man Secret Lair Offers Insane Value and Staples

Today has been one hell of a day for MTG as five brand-new Secret Lair drops have been announced. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, an entire Spider-Man-themed set has also been confirmed for a 2025 release. Sadly, details about this set are rather few and far between right now. Mercifully, we do at least know plenty about the new Secret Lair drops.

In total, the Secret Lair Marvel Superdrop contains five unique Universes Beyond drops, each featuring a mechanically unique card. Themed around one of Marvel’s iconic heroes, each drop is a delightful mix of exciting cards and stunning art. Some drops, like Secret Lair x Marvel’s Iron Man offer everything you could want from a Secret Lair.

Offering amazing value, stellar staples, and a thoroughly interesting brand-new MTG card too, Secret Lair x Marvel’s Iron Man has it all.

Iron Man, Titan of Innovation

Iron Man, Titan of Innovation

To kick off with the man himself, Iron Man, Titan of Innovation is an incredibly exciting MTG card. Offering a repeatable tutor effect, this card can provide fantastic long-term value and utility. From the get-go, Iron Man can attack, creature a treasure, and then sacrifice that treasure into Sol Ring. Handily, you also get a Sol Ring in this Secret Lair drop.

From here, Iron Man gets a lot more interesting as there are two trains of thought to follow. By just keeping Iron Man on the backline, you can steadily convert any available artifact into a scarier one every turn. Sol Ring can become Arcane Signet which becomes Chromatic Lantern a turn later.

If you’re not after slightly better and better mana rocks, Iron Man can literally fetch you any Artifact you need, provided its cost is right. Unsurprisingly, this gives them an insane amount of utility in any artifact-focused deck. As if that wasn’t enough, Iron Man will create a Treasure token every time they attack.

Not only does this action help pay for their Commander Tax if they perish, but it also gives you an artifact to sacrifice. Should you be attacking every turn, this means you can keep tutoring one drop artifacts like there’s no tomorrow. Obviously, should any of these artifacts become expandable, you can easily tutor it into something better.

While they have only just been revealed, Iron Man, Titan of Innovation is going to see a great deal of Commander play. Not only do they have some seriously interesting abilities, but it’s Iron Man! Any MTG-loving Marvel fan is bound to have a keen interest in this card, like all of the new Secret Lair specials.

Secret Lair x Marvel's Iron Man

On top of Iron Man himself, the Secret Lair x Marvel’s Iron Man drop contains four, technically five reprints. To get the technicality out of the way first, there’s a new Treasure Token featuring Iron Man’s iconic helmet. Looking at past precedent, this token may only be worth $2, but it’s nonetheless a nice added touch.

To move on to the big ticket items, the best reprint of the bunch is Commander Plate, which sells for $32. Offering incredible protection for your Commander, especially for monocolored Commanders, this card is a true staple. Found in over 110,000 decks, this card is also mandatory for Voltron and equipment-focused archetypes.

Dropping down the value order somewhat, Inventors’ Fair is a $12 MTG card. Offering life gain and eventually a tutor effect for an artifact, Inventors’ Far is a true staple land. If you’re building an artifact deck in Commander, you’ll need this MTG card, so it’s great they come paired with Iron Man.

Plummeting further down the order now, Galvanic Blast is a $2 removal spell that is situationally amazing. If you’ve got enough artifacts, this card is just a better Lightning Bolt, but you’ll have to have Metalcraft active for that. Thankfully, a deck built around Iron Man, Titan of Innovation should have no trouble managing that feat.

Last but by no means least, Secret Lair x Marvel’s Iron Man also contains a reprint of Sol Ring. Depending on supply and demand, this card could potentially become the drop’s most lucrative card. Past Secret Lair Sol Rings have sold for anything between $8 and $80, so there’s huge potential.
