MTG Hobbit Full Secret Lair Reveal Showcases Just $9 of Reprints

Back at MagicCon: Amsterdam, Wizards of the Coast went all out, revealing a ton of Secret Lairs at once. While the Perfectly Normal Superdrop was the focus here, Wizards also teased the Marvelous Mathom Superdrop. Launching on August 14th, Wizards has just revealed a new full drop from this upcoming release, after a few teases.

Sadly, while the newly revealed drop does look good, its value leaves a great deal to be desired. Offering barely $9 in reprints, the Over the Edge of the Wild drop is technically a disappointing dud. Since many of the newly revealed reprints are Commander staples, however, this drop could prove surprisingly lucrative.

Thanks to Wizards teasing the entire superdrop previously, the reprints of Imp’s Mischief and Stony Silence have already been confirmed. Sadly, these two cards account for the vast majority of the value in the drop, largely thanks to Imp’s Mischief’s $6.50 price tag. After this, prices drop off incredibly quickly, as the next most valuable card is Cloudshift.

Selling for just $1.10 at its cheapest, this card might not seem exciting, but it’s played in around 169,000 Commander decks. Capable of flickering a creature for protection or value, this humble instant has tons of potent applications. Notably, this is the first time it’s getting a Secret Lair printing, too, so it could prove surprisingly expensive.

For better or worse, the same is also true for Tocasia’s Welcome. Despite selling for just $0.60, this card is a staple in white-aligned decks thanks to offering consistent draw, especially in go-wide decks. While it has been reprinted a few times, this is its first chase Secret Lair printing, so it could definitely be one to watch.

Similarly seeing play in around 163,000 Commander decks, Seize the Spoils is another Commander staple getting its first chase variant. Typically, this card is incredibly cheap, selling for just $0.25, but the Secret Lair printing might not follow this trend. Considering how adorable this diorama-style art is, it may be deservedly beloved.
