Article at a Glance

In the nature of endless spoiler seasons, MTG’s next big spoiler moment is coming up surprisingly fast. Despite Doctor Who releasing just last Friday and The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Spoiler season officially kicking off this coming Tuesday, the MTG Fallout First Look is coming tomorrow!

First Looks

Announced on Twitter today from Wizards of the Coast was a shocking new statement: MTG Fallout’s First Look is coming tomorrow, Thursday, October 19, 2023.

To recap, a First Look is, basically, a significant glance into what a new set of Magic is going to look like. These standalone events are as much for players as they are for perspective stores looking to purchase products to sell to players. By judging the amount of excitement from the player’s perspective, stores can try to gauge how popular an upcoming set is going to be.

MTG Fallout is the next installment of the Universes Beyond series after the holiday release of Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. The last release was the recent Doctor Who Commander decks last Friday.

Similarly to Doctor Who, the upcoming Fallout set features four Commander decks first and foremost. The set will not be fully draftable like Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth. Expect to see some wildly exciting character cards appear in the first look for MTG’s newest crossover.

Still Some Time to Wait

MTG Fallout

Despite the MTG Fallout First Look suddenly appearing tomorrow, there is still quite sometime before this set officially releases. Fallout will not be available until March 2024, and the official spoiler season for the set may not kick off until 11 days before the set releases. At least, that is what past trends would predict.

While we do know that Fallout is scheduled to hit shelves in March 2024, we don’t really know when exactly the spoiler season for this set is going to start. That said, we do not expect it to start anytime soon.

Exciting and Overwhelming

While a majority of MTG players are indeed excited to see what Wizards of the Coast has in store for the MTG Fallout First Look, players are also a little confused. Getting First Looks, or any Weekly MTG events of that matter, on a Thursday is incredibly irregular. This is probably related to the fact that MTG’s The Lost Caverns of Ixalan debut stream occurs this Tuesday, kicking off the spoiler season for MTG’s next Standard-legal set releasing this November.

This is magnified by the groundbreaking announcement regarding Play Boosters. Introducing a shocking change to product lineups come 2024, even this Fallout announcement pales in comparison to the changes that MTG players will see in response to the Play Booster.

While some players may find all the new content being released by Wizards of the Coast rather overwhelming, it is nonetheless exciting. If things move a bit too quickly for you to keep up with, just keep your eyes trained here. We’ll be sure to snapshot the highlights of tomorrow’s proceedings, and any game-breaking Ixalan spoilers will be all over our page next week.

Until then, feel free to take a look at everything we know about the MTG Fallout set so far.
