Yesterday, the Duskmourn debut stream revealed a boatload of information about the upcoming premier set. We got a glimpse at an initial wave of spoilers, learned the various mechanics of the set, and more. There’s lots to look forward to, and plenty of things that make Duskmourn unique.
On top of the usual suite of products we’ve come to expect, Wizards also revealed more about the Duskmourn: House of Horror Nightmare Bundle. This collection of cards and other goodies has some similarities to Gift Bundles in the past but offers a bit more to make the product feel special. If you’re looking to purchase a present for someone, these Nightmare Bundles offer a cool variety of collectibles, perfect for any occasion.
What Are Duskmourn Nightmare Bundles?
Ultimately, Nightmare Bundles are a deviation from the traditional Bundle package that is offered with most sets. Typical Bundles are still available for purchase with the release of Duskmourn, but Nightmare Bundles provide some extra stuff at an extra cost.
Just like with normal Bundles, you get a handful of Duskmourn Play Boosters right off the bat. While regular Bundles have nine play boosters, Nightmare Bundles only have six. However, players get the added bonus of receiving two collector boosters, increasing their odds of opening spicy pulls with awesome card treatments.
From there, Nightmare Bundles come with 20 traditional foil full-art lands that show off the set’s creepy environment. Going further down that path, players will receive three double-sided movie posters and a glow-in-the-dark spindown for their troubles.
Finally, the last major upgrade players get when purchasing a Duskmourn Nightmare Bundle comes in the form of two neat alternate-art cards. There are three potential borderless promo cards and three distinct movie poster-themed cards players can open. Each Nightmare Bundle comes randomly with one foil card from both categories. Some of these cards may be a bit pricy, so let’s break them down.

Extra Alternate-Art Cards
First up, we have the borderless promo cards. The three possible cards you can open in this slot are Crypt Ghast, Exhume, and Damn. Crypt Ghast is an awesome Commander that fits perfectly into decks with plenty of Swamps at the ready. Getting a huge mana boost outside of green is really nice. Crypt Ghast is worth about $5 in its cheapest form according to TCGPlayer market price, giving it a respectable reprint value.
Exhume, while not as powerful as Animate Dead or Reanimate, does sometimes supplement them as a way to bring back enormous haymakers in Legacy Reanimator shells. Despite being printed as just a common back in Urza’s Saga, the card is still valued at a little over $3. Damn, a versatile improvement to the iconic Wrath of God, also comes in at about the same price.
As you can see, in the case of the borderless promos, there isn’t a big disparity when it comes to reprint value. However, the opposite is true for movie poster-themed cards. Living Death, a sweet card for EDH that can singlehandedly swing a game in your favor, is only worth about $3 at its cheapest form thanks to its multitude of reprints. Meanwhile, Archon of Cruelty, a top-tier creature to cheat into play via reanimation spells or Indomitable Creativity, sits at about $6.
Goryo’s Vengeance, on the other hand, is worth a whopping $21. Goryo’s Vengeance remains a staple archetype in the Modern format. It’s unclear exactly how the price of this new version will compare. It’ll depend on how popular these Nightmare Bundles end up being and how many copies are in circulation. Nonetheless, this alternate-art Goryo’s Vengeance looks pretty cool and could easily maintain a high price tag.

Are Nightmare Bundles Worth It?
As cool as these Nightmare Bundles seem, you’re probably wondering if they’re worth the money in the first place. Presale prices of Nightmare Bundles on TCGPlayer currently hover around $88-$89. When factoring in all that the Duskmourn Nightmare Bundle has available, this isn’t too bad.
Duskmourn Play Boosters sit at roughly $6 a piece for presale at the moment, while Collector Boosters are at about $25. Considering that there are 6 Play Boosters and 2 Collector Boosters in each Nightmare Bundle, you’re already getting about $86 in value from the packs alone. Then, you can add in your movie poster-themed card and borderless promo card, which will definitely put you over the $88-$89 threshold.
At the end of the day, if you enjoy cracking packs and can make good use of the movie posters, full art foil lands, deck box, and spindown, this product seems like a very solid pickup. On the flip side, if special card treatments aren’t your thing, you may want to look elsewhere.
A lot of the value of the Nightmare Bundle does lie with the Collector Boosters, so if those don’t interest you, a regular Bundle might be a better purchase. Either way, these Nightmare Bundles are very flavorful and should make neat gifts for MTG and horror fans alike.
