MTG Booster Tins With Special Promos Are an Insane Deal

Booster Tins aren’t a big thing in Magic: The Gathering, but they’re certainly popular in the larger TCG industry. The biggest example of this comes from the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. A whole pack type is dedicated just to these tins, and they are consistently some of the best ways to access cheap reprints of expensive cards.

MTG tins aren’t quite as exciting as tins from competitors, but they are undeniably a good deal. Offering exclusive promotional cards with some extra packs too, these tins are just in time for the Holidays.

MTG Bloomburrow Tins

Themed after Bloomburrow, a new MTG tin product will be available in Walmart alongside select stores this December. While the artwork, and one of the promos, are very Bloomburrow-focused, the contents of the tins are a bit more varied.

Firstly, each tin will come with two guaranteed MTG promos, which both saw a printing in Bloomburrow. Liliana of the Dark Realms is undoubtedly the more exciting of the two reprints. Getting the animal Planeswalker treatment, Liliana of the Dark Realms appeared in Collector Booster packs for Bloomburrow.

This isn’t really a main set reprint, so the reprint value of Liliana was not heavily affected. Retailing for about $13.50 at its cheapest, this is the best reprint we’ve seen in recent tin-style products like this. Liliana makes for a good addition to any black-oriented Commander deck.

The other reprint isn’t as exciting, but is still interesting for Typal Commander players out there. Patchwork Banner is a Bloomburrow exclusive uncommon that has a surprising amount of reprint value. A mana rock that acts as an Anthem for your chosen tribe is quite powerful for an uncommon. As a result, this card demands about $5 on the secondary market.

Needless to say, thanks to these reprints, the value of these cards is going to decrease, but it’s nice to see that the promos being offered this time around are sufficiently valuable.

The Booster Packs

In addition to the two guaranteed MTG promos, which offer about $19 in reprint value to the product, MTG players also get to open five booster packs. Because the tins are themed after Bloomburrow, there is a slight focus on that set, but a variety is still offered for players looking to get their fix. Here are the packs offered in the 2024 December MTG tins:

  • Bloomburrow Play Boosters
  • Magic: The Gathering Foundations Play Booster
  • Outlaws of Thunder Junction Play Booster
  • Murders at Karlov Manor Play Booster

As far as what types of tins you can get, there will be three different bits of Bloomburrow artwork decorating available tins. In terms of contents, all of these tins contain the same five packs and two promos.

Considering that five Booster packs are being offered, we wouldn’t be surprised if the final value of the tin is worth around $30-35. Notably, while Wizards of the Coast has announced this product in an article, they have not announced its price.

UPDATE: While there was no given price for these Bloomburrow Booster tins on the official Wizards of the Coast article, fans are starting to see the product in the wild. It appears that these tins are going for about $25, which is an absolutely incredible deal. The reprint value plus the value of the five packs far exceeds this total, and you get a stylish tin on top of it. Most players were willing to pay a bit over the value of the cards for this product, but it is much cheaper than even we expected.

Anger Regarding Availability

Perhaps the biggest catch with the MTG tin products this time is that they are only available in Canada and the United States. While this is great for those customers, players worldwide are interested in the product. When these tins were revealed, the most common responses from players were disappointment at being unable to buy it:

“So mentioning Walmart etc I guess this is going to be a North America thing only? we want those in Europe too!”

AerosAT

Considering that players are excited enough to be complaining about a lack of availability, there’s a decent chance that these tins are going to have some demand behind them. If this seems like something up your alley or that you want to gift over the Holidays, be on the lookout at local Walmarts throughout December.
