Wizards of the Coast revenue up 118% in Q2 2021
During Hasbro’s second quarter earnings call last Monday, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed that Wizards of the Coast’s Q2 2021 revenue “more than doubled” when compared to last year’s Q2.
WotC’s Q2 2021 revenue rose to $406 million, up 118% from $187 million in Q2 2020. The Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons publisher’s profit also grew at an impressive rate to $193 million from $74 million.
Hasbro said that the growth was primarily driven by Magic: The Gathering’s two major releases in the quarter, Strixhaven: School of Mages and Modern Horizons 2, and Goldner revealed that both expansions were “record” releases but didn’t elaborate the reasons. He added that demand for Magic is “at an all-time high”, but noted that the production delays continue due to high demand for materials.
MTG Arena mobile is a success!
According to Goldner, MTG Arena is “up quite considerably” year-over-year and is a profitable product largely thanks to the launch of MTG Arena on mobile devices earlier this year, which Goldner said “exceeded all expectations”.

Goldner said that the game’s metrics are “very competitive” with other mobile games, and Hasbro is seeing strong hybrid engagement from players playing both tabletop and digital Magic.
When asked by an institutional investor on the earnings call, Goldner declined to disaggregate the numbers for Magic’s digital and tabletop performance. However, he said that “digital is going to be a growing part of [Wizards’] business” in the future, and Hasbro believes that MTG’s tabletop business to grow alongside digital but that digital will make up a bigger percentage of the revenue moving forward.
