MTG Netflix series is coming in 2022!
Hasbro has provided an update for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering movie and Netflix animated series today. During an investor call, Hasbro’s eOne division has confirmed that the upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series for Netflix is still in development for a 2022 release date. The Netflix series, produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame directors), was originally set to release this year, but today’s call confirms that it’s being pushed back one more year. As for the Magic: The Gathering movie, eOne confirms that they are still developing a feature length Magic: The Gathering film with Fox, but no additional details have been revealed.
In addition, eOne also confirmed that the upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons film will begin production this spring. The lead cast of the D&D film has also been confirmed, which includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and Regé-Jean Page. The live-action D&D film is scheduled to release on May 27, 2022.
Hasbro also announced its plans to build a new line of Magic: The Gathering products called “Universes Beyond”, which will feature MTG cross-over with various other popular franchises. The first one will be with Dungeons & Dragons-themed MTG set, Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures of the Forgotten Realms, which is scheduled to release this summer. In addition to D&D, Universes Beyond will also feature characters and concepts from The Lord of the Rings and Warhammer 40,000.
